Bet you were not expecting to see Bing Crosby covering Joni Mitchell today. 123 years ago today, one of the best, if not the best to ever do it, Bing Crosby was born.

We had an overabundance of great tv theme tunes in the 70’s & 80’s. Here are just some of my favourites. What are yours? A thread. Return Of The Saint

Check out this satellite map of Dublin from 1966! Yep that's right, on 19 February 1966, a KH-7 GAMBIT reconnaissance satellite operated by the CIA passed over Dublin. This magic window on our city just before things went international. You can zoom in to surprising detail. Go fullscreen then use the transparency slider at the bottom right so you can compare now with 66'! KH-7s primary purpose was Cold War espionage against Soviet and Chinese nuclear and missile installations. This slice of swinging Dublin was used to calibrate. Mad what I find lying around the Dublin Time Machines magic drawers. The photo below is just a screenshot, you've to click the link spacefromspace.com/declassified-s…

Conan O'Brien says he has "incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country" after traveling to Ireland and seeing his great-grandfather lived. "I went back to Ireland and I [saw] a great genealogist who said, 'I found where your great-grandfather’s home was.' The home is gone, but he found the little spot where he lived, near the Galbally Mountains. He said, 'I’ll go there and show it to you,' and I said, 'We’ll do it on camera.' "I was expecting to have these jokes loaded up; we had props and funny things we were going to do... But I got there, and I did not expect this because I'm not someone who wears my emotions on my sleeve, but I got emotional. It was very powerful. "This was a very small plot of land. He was a tenant farmer, so it wasn't his. He didn't have money, and he needed to move on because it wasn't working; probably not enough to eat, couldn't sustain. So, he left and went to America, and here I am a couple of generations later. "What's amazing to me is when you have that experience and you stand there, I have incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country. It takes an entire lifetime to go to a country where, often, people don't speak the language. They have to spend their entire lives just getting things started for the next generation; it's a whole lifetime that you're feeding into this process. "I was just thinking about this guy, whom I'll never meet, who had to do that. I think I was overcome by the fact that there's a lot of sadness in that story, and in a lot of these stories. People leave not because they think, 'Hey, I just want to go have fun in America.' They leave because they have to." (via Jimmy Kimmel Live)

Nuns on stilts, people on unicycles juggling paint brushes, a mayor with no teeth who's evidently been on the sauce, a mass konga suicide. It can only mean one thing. CILLA'S IN TOWN! I've lost count with regards to what number this is but for the sake of accuracy, from now on I'll refer to all of them as #2. Good day.

What makes the 'Two Ronnie's' so incredibly amazing isn't just their intellectual brilliance but the way that, unlike modern comedians, they could make us laugh with clean language and manners. Even their innuendos are delivered with charm.

So sorry to hear Alice left this world still not knowing what happened to her son Philip. He was almost the same age as me and the story still haunts me. May she finally find some peace. independent.ie/irish-news/fun…
