Tonight’s #KUCancerFighter hero is Aiden Burkhart, a 17-year-old from Topeka now in this 3rd battle with Ewing Sarcoma.
We first told you about Aiden last season when he was battling this rare bone cancer for a 2nd time (his original diagnosis came when he was just 4 years old). It’s been a grueling stretch for this standout Topeka Hayden High School swimmer, including countless rounds of chemo and radiation and even having part of his pelvis removed. Last fall, a brain tumor was discovered after 11 cancer-free years. Just as he did as a toddler, Aiden attacked it with tremendous determination and courage. Most of the tumor was removed and treatment was going well, but sadly, just when Aiden was one week shy of completing treatment, a new mass was found. Aiden just restarted oral chemotherapy last night and his 3rd battle is now underway.
To show him some extra Jayhawk Love, some special donors have made it possible for him to be at tonight’s with his parents and sister, Ava. His lists KJ Adams as his all time favorite Jayhawk and look at who he got to meet & gets to sit behind tonight!
Aiden, we know this latest diagnosis was devastating news but if anybody can beat it, you can & Jayhawk Nation is rallying around you right now! Tonight’s call is for you. 💙❤️
