“She ran out of the room, and my heart sank,” Miranda said. “I knew. Something was wrong.” Spines were twisted. Organs were hanging out of their bodies or hadn’t developed at all. Zero percent chance of viability, for either twin. Texas abortion laws make no exception for lethal fetal anomalies. Let’s back up. When Miranda found out she was pregnant again in February, she was happy to be back in Texas among her close-knit family. She and Levi always planned to have another child. Miranda soon found out that it wasn’t a blessing to be pregnant and in Texas. She struggled to get an appointment with an obstetrician. A nurse practitioner told her she may be having twins. This pregnancy felt unfamiliar so she went to the emergency room in Texarkana, half an hour away, where she learned there were two fetus’ and they might be conjoined or “mono,” developing in the same amniotic sac. By the time she found a specialist three hours away and got an appointment, she was four months. Zero chance of survival. The specialist left the room. A few minutes later, the nurse came back and handed them a Post-It note with the name of an abortion clinic in New Mexico. The fetus’ had a heartbeat. Texas says fuck your feelings. Texas says fuck your emotions. Fuck your health. Fuck your pain and fuck your trauma. She could not afford to leave the state. There were no other options. Fast forward… “And then, as one, they exhaled. There was no miracle. The diagnosis was right. These babies would not survive.” Born and died August 9, 2023. Delivered to bury. The Republican way. #FreshWords

It’s amazing how many people complained about a mask being over reach but don’t care Texas has say in a woman’s doctors decisions.

It’s a tough look to see a second lockdown only a day after some Republican leaders mocked UNC students who were protesting at the legislature demanding action on common sense gun reform. Instead of turning your backs, how about actually listening to them?

Maybe it’s just me but if you’re mad the government suggested you wear a mask to prevent the spread of a deadly disease but fine with government telling women they have to take a pregnancy test just to travel between states, “government overreach” isn’t really your problem.

A Black couple says an employee at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond in Toledo, Ohio, called the police on them for allegedly having “too many high ticket items” in their shopping cart. They deserve answers for this humiliating experience! 🎥: @lamarrichards_

@BedBathBeyond in Toledo Ohio called the police on my boyfriend and I because we had “too many high ticket items in our cart.” Remind you, it’s a closing sale so everything was 60% off.

I was fortunate enough to get a private screening of the film, Killers of the Flower Moon earlier this month. Having been marginally released from my NDA with the premiere of the film today at Cannes, I have a few thoughts.

Over the last two decades, more school-age children have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active duty military combined. Think about that. Congress, the time to pass stronger gun safety reforms is now.
