My grandpa used to say “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” The 1st time I was old enough to get it, I said “That’s not fair!” He said “Exactly! So make it your life’s work to ensure everyone meets each other.” He’s 2 decades gone, but I’m still at it. #advocacy #MedEd

Few patients appeal a health insurance denial, but a little-known process that requires insurers and plans to seek an independent opinion can force insurers to pay for what can be lifesaving treatment. Here’s what experts say you need to know. propublica.org/article/health…

Brian Jarboe, longtime NPR technical director and my frequent companion working ridiculous hours, has died after an extended health crisis. Brian’s brought you the human voice, beautifully captured, and I want you to hear his voice. 1/2

Brian Jarboe, longtime technical director of NPR programs, is among the most skilled, professional, decent people I’ve ever worked with. If you heard something good on NPR, he may have been the one who made it possible. His family can use your help. gofund.me/eb5ebb00

Viruses and Joint and Tendon Pain You had a cold two weeks ago. Nothing serious. But now your knee hurts more than it has in months. Your achilles is flaring. Your easy run felt like a half-marathon. You didn't do anything wrong. Here's what's actually happening...

I’m amazed. It’s really true: the BA.3.2 COVID lineage is infecting children at a much higher rate than previous lineages. I’m late to this party, but I couldn’t really believe it was true until I did the analysis for myself. 1/

Excited to finally get this one out in @Nature_NPJ! In the largest study of its kind to date, we used data from the @visible_health platform to answer a simple question: can we predict symptom fluctuations and crashes from both the physiological and nature.com/articles/s4174… 1/

On #InternationalWomensDay, I’m grateful for the women who shape oncology every day—mentors, colleagues, nurses, research teams, and patients whose strength inspires our work. Thankful for those who paved the way and committed to lifting up the next generation.

March 4th. The only date that is also a command. It's been 19 years since my husband died of cancer & my life irreversibly changed. It took me years to feel like I wasn't drowning every minute of every day. Grief & financial toxicity gave me a mission. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamao…

In 2023, I wrote about being a psychiatrist who lived with suicidal ideation and the need for our society to discuss suicidality openly to decrease stigma. In April 2025, I wrote about the framework I used to notify others, create goals to keep me alive, cultivate self-love, and radically accept my suicidality when it arose. In August 2025, I wrote about the framework I use to turn each and every suicidal thought from a seemingly insurmountable force into solvable components. Today, we move forward in my narrative. This time, I write to you all to share the four steps I use to navigate and continue my healing journey in the months after my suicidality goes into remission. Honored to publish in @medpagetoday with my newest piece, “Living After Suicidality: A Physician’s Framework for Healing After Their Suicidality Goes into Remission.” So much love and gratitude to @genevievefri for the stellar edits along with the thoughtfulness and care she put into collaborating on this article.
