If that was the goal of the work the writer shouldn't have had him isekai. It undermines the theme he's "going for".

I think a lot of people miss what the author was trying to explore. Rudy wasn’t introduced as a role model. He was introduced as someone who wasted his life after years of bullying, isolation, and shutting himself off from the world. People like that exist in real life today. They’re socially withdrawn, emotionally stunted, and escape into fantasy because reality has completely defeated them. The fantasy isn’t there to reward Rudy’s past. It’s there to ask a question: “If someone who completely failed at life was given a genuine second chance, could they become a better person?” You don’t have to like Rudy. You don’t have to forgive everything he does. But reducing the entire story to “the author supports this behavior” ignores the larger theme of redemption, growth, and rebuilding a life from absolute rock bottom. Sometimes it’s worth asking what a story is trying to explore instead of assuming it’s endorsing every action its protagonist takes. #mushoku_tensei

The way character designs evolve over time is one of my favorite aspects of reading a long running comic. Its always so interesting to see how different each artist reacts to their constraints and sensibilities.

@The_Vaki_el Alot of stylization works out like that. In my own work for example I use flat line art so it don't have to spend more time making the line weights work in each panel. Necessity is the mother of invention!

the reason i’m ripping into mashima’s art is because he’s a 50 yr old man who INTENTIONALLY made changes to his art style that makes his characters look like inbred pugslop. the quality of his art noticeably decreased when he CHOSE to switch to digital.

@itskindred oh yeah this is a great one right here! It's funny how people are always in a rush to "find their style" when most of our favorite artist are remembered most for the later ends of their careers.

A lot of times people will view it as the artist getting worse or "lazy" when truthfully more often than not that artist is becoming more in tune with their own style and how to effectively draw their characters.

For example: Look at the subtle curve of the face on the left vs how the right is just 2/3 lines its much easier to draw that quickly and more consistently than the first pic. Oda's art stlye did a similar thing over time too.
