Latin America shelves its last plans for new coal 🎉 In 2015, 18 coal plants were proposed across the region. Last year, just two remained, in Brazil and Honduras. Today, there are no active coal plant projects on the continent. 🧵👇

Doubling down on fossil fuels is absurd. The clean energy revolution is here. No group, no business, and no government can stop it. Leaders at #COP29 can and must ensure it is fair and fast enough to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

The world is building renewables. But it continues to use energy wastefully. I love this quote below in the exec summ👇💯 And it's left me desperately thinking.. Where is the policy action on efficiency?!

"Putting an end to climate policy 'do as i say, not as i do" says @DavidLammy. This, and clean energy access for all for all, not just the wealthiest, and we could be on a roll to real #climateleadership

The media and political class is complicit in the far right, racist and Islamophobic violence we’re seeing across our country. This morning, I experienced the visceral denial of this reality.

📢Climate change was a top issue for voters this election. Sunak’s reversals on climate made it easier for their more climate-concerned 2019 voters to defect to Labour and the Liberal Democrats. Explore our research with @moreincommon here: moreincommon.org.uk/general-electi…
Luke Tryl@LukeTryl

🧵New research from @moreincommon_ & @e3g finds that while climate didn't dominate the 2024 election debate, it really did matter to voters! In fact far from voters not caring - Labour and Liberal Democrat voters ranked it as the third most important issue in deciding their vote.

NEW from me: Clean energy generated a record-high 44% of China’s electricity in May 2024, pushing coal’s share down to a record low of 53%. Coal lost seven percentage points compared with May 2023, when it accounted for 60% of generation in China.
