I began #longcovid rehab today. Buckle up. 🧵 When making the appointment with me, they asked me to be there for 9am. Not a chance. Even 10am was a push. I arrived in a large room with 4 tables, each populated with a clinician & a patient, with the 1/

I keep hearing @UKLabour saying the fact we have so many on #benefits is "a moral failure". I put it to you, #Labour, that the "moral failure" is not only the cruel drive to emplace #disabled people into work on pain of sanction, or to save money by cutting benefits to the most vulnerable, it is this: Saying disability unemployment is a "moral failure" reinforces the perspective of able-bodied persons that we disabled are immoral, cheats, or workshy for not working despite our conditions. Furthermore, it also causes harm to us, as it increases the self-perception of being fraudulent, or a burden. That is dangerous, as such a message can exacerbate our symptoms (particularly those involving mental health) or drive us to attempt things we simply cannot, and consequently cause harm to ourselves or others. A person's worth, their value to society, is not dictated by their employment status. Simply saying disingenuously "We are the party of work, it's in our name", well, that's the moral failure.

The percentage of GDP spent on welfare has remained unchanged for decades so the attempt to blame the state of the current economy on so called "surging costs" is what is traditionally referred to as a f*king lie.

Said they’d message the store. No further contact. She has a 4m old baby, a 9yo & no way of going out for shopping and no way of paying for it as you’ve taken payment. When will you get this sorted? It’s not good enough.

The absolute shite I'm reading about motability cars, wild. See when yer all done dehumanising asylum seekers & wanting disabled folk to go back to driving the wee 3 wheelers & have the bare minimum in life, who's next? Who are the billionaires going to tell you to shout at next?

Disabled people do not deserve choice or any form of luxury, even when it is paid for by the individual. That's the message govt is sending to people who can access the motabilty scheme. It's dystopian and discriminatory.

This won’t actually save the government or the taxpayer a penny. But this is all about performative cruelty and pandering to people who hate the disabled. news.sky.com/story/luxury-c…

I've seen quite a few tweets from nondisabled people who seem apoplectic that disabled people can access cars that don't scream 'I am disabled '. They seem really desperate to make us feel inferior. I think it's got 1930s undertones.

I forced the Government to reveal the facts on Motability. It cost taxpayers £3 billion this year alone. We have a plan to fix this. Watch below👇

Ffs Rachel Reeves is so incompetent it’s unreal 🤦🏼‍♀️ Labour: “Let’s bully people back into working jobs that don’t exist or starve them!” Also Labour: “but let’s also take away their means to drive to a job, meaning they DEFINITELY won’t be able to work”
Dr Jay Watts@Shrink_at_Large

The persecution continues. The Motability scheme isn’t some luxury add-on or “extra help”: it’s simply a different way of receiving the disability benefits that people are already legally entitled to. It’s not a perk that means a free Beamer FFS. #TakingThePIP

@drpiyushkr What’s overwhelming is the knowledge that I could be in that very situation and billions of people wouldn’t lift a finger to help. Would carry on with their lives and say “but H*mas…” I am overwhelmed with anger. It does not have to be this way.

@Burleylass @tapdancingzen @Elizabe13014545 No we aren’t. You keep avoiding answering my questions. That’s why you don’t want to continue. Just admit that you don’t have any compassion, that you’re hiding behind “bUt I wAnt to HelP GeNUinLy disAbLed pPl” as an excuse for your out and out meanness and inhumanity.

I think people forget that the welfare state was set up to help people going through hard times not to fund a lifestyle choice. We are now at a point where people staying at home can get more money than someone on basic wage, how was that ever allowed to happen?

@Burleylass @tapdancingzen @Elizabe13014545 No. You’re wrong. 0.2% is claimed fraudulently - unless you know differently. If you do, please let the DWP know - they’ll be delighted. But that’s the official figure. THAT isn’t difficult to grasp, yet you seem to be having great difficulty.

@tapdancingzen @sasperillaz @Elizabe13014545 Obtuse and patronising simultaneously, congratulations. Of course we should help those in need, and I do. Far too many though are receiving benefits when they shouldn’t be. It should be a safety net and is being abused, leaving less for genuine cases. Not that difficult to grasp

@Burleylass @tapdancingzen @Elizabe13014545 Who are these more worthy people? How have you decided who is worthy and who is not? What’s your criteria? How dare you impugn my morals? And how dare you suggest that sustainability comes into it? If society cannot afford to look after its vulnerable then it needs to pay more.
