For years, warnings have been raised about threats made by the Islamic Republic against dissidents and journalists living abroad. Now it has emerged that a programme broadcast by Iran’s state broadcaster from its London office displayed photographs of myself (Salome Seyednia) and Omid Khalili identified us by name, and stated that we “should not die a natural death” and should instead die “a very painful death.” The presenters went on to reference the Islamic Republic’s history of pursuing and killing opponents abroad, including Iraqi pilots, claiming that they have “expertise” in such matters. I have reported this incident to UK Counter Terrorism Policing and provided them with the full video and an English translation of the broadcast. I am still awaiting the outcome of their assessment. Following the broadcast, British parliamentarians condemned the remarks as an open incitement to murder and called for an investigation into the activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) office in London. A serious question remains: how can a state broadcaster accused of openly threatening journalists on British soil continue to operate from London? @metpoliceuk @CPhilpOfficial @MarkJSewards thejc.com/news/uk/london…
