And of course, when you have all institutions, from the EC to ED, on your side, winning at electoral politics is that much more easy.

Give people something/someone to hate, a clear identifiable ‘other’ and they will stand with you forever. A play book as simple as it can be. Constantly frame someone as the other and allow that to seep into people’s imagination. No prizes for guessing which party does it best.

Today’s storm got the city’s beloved @bookworm_Kris bad with over 5000 books bearing the brunt. Running a bookstore in 2026 is brave, selfless and everything in between. So, when Bookworm is ready to sell again, GO and buy a book, or two. Keep good things alive. We need to.

Sting in the tale In an age where memes travel faster than editorials, satire and political cartoons still hold great relevance. Cartoonists now face shrinking space, legal scrutiny and political pressure. #cartoons #satire #Nehru #India #politics #meme

actually Bangalore lost its cool no matter what the weather folks say... The daytime max barely moved since the 1980s. But it's hotter than 30C for MUCH longer Heat stress lasts longer: used to get cooler by 4:27 PM → now HOT till 5:54 PM The night used to cool down below 22°C and we used to recover — now hours per night under 22°C — shrank from 3½ hours to 48 minutes! No wonder I'm cranky and exhausted in the mornings! 40 years of ERA5 hourly data → prasannais.com/is-bangalore-h…

Dear all in media: please note the NARI BILL or Womens Reservation Bill has been UNANIMOUSLY PASSED by all parties in 2023 and has now been notified. WOMEN’S RESERVATION IS THE LAW. What has been defeated is the AMENDMENT LINKING the Womens Bill to an outlandish DELIMITATION and a 15 year old CENSUS. Please correct headlines . And don’t tell lies. Tell the truth. Lies are bad for health.

So I painstakingly walk her through WRB, delimitation and the arguments pro and con. Her eyes glaze over. Wife: Okay, this is too complex for me. Me, having an epiphany: You know what the real problem is? The BJP and its allies reduce everything to a bumper sticker you can wrap your head around. "Anti-women" "Anti-national" etc. Those in opposition have to explain why they are not "anti-women" -- and such explanations are not simple, they don't fit on a bumper sticker, they require both the explainer and the explainee to use their damn brains, and who today can be bothered? That is why the Modi types keep winning -- because they know your brain can only digest bumper stickers.

Unusual, perhaps unprecedented, for an Indian Prime Minister to explicitly target opposition parties in an address to the nation by specifically naming them and criticising them issue by issue. Such speeches are common in public rallies and parliament but not in an address to the nation. This suggests that Modi's anger over the #NariShakti Bill that ran into Census and #delimitation roadblocks is a matter of acute political necessity. Watch this space.

The lengthiest whine I’ve heard from a sitting prime minister on television ever. Crybaby. Congress this Congress that.
