Today in Banjul, I visited the premises of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, led by Mrs. Abiola Idowu-Ojo, Executive Secretary of the ACHPR @achpr_cadhp, and held an interactive town hall with staff. A valuable exchange recognising the Commission’s longstanding contribution to human rights on the continent, while exploring ways to strengthen support and enhance coordination in advancing its work. I also commended the professionalism, dedication, and continued commitment of the staff in delivering on this important continental responsibility.

Earlier this week at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, I was pleased to receive a delegation from the United Nations Office to the African Union @UNOAU_, led by Mr. Nicholas Shalita, for a constructive exchange on preparations for the AU–UN Annual Conference, focusing on aligning priorities and coordinating arrangements.

This week in Addis Ababa, I was pleased to join H.E. the AUC Chairperson for a meeting with H.E. Elzain Ibrahim Hussein, Ambassador of the Republic of #Sudan. Discussions focused on the evolving political and security situation in Sudan, with emphasis on advancing coordinated efforts towards stability and a peaceful resolution.

Today in Berlin, it was a pleasure to join H.E. the AUC Chairperson in his engagement with H.E. Johann Wadephul @AussenMinDE, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany @GermanyDiplo, within the framework of the AU–Germany strategic high-level dialogue. Discussions focused on advancing key priorities of the AU–Germany partnership, including peace and security, trade, climate action, and energy cooperation, as well as enhanced resource mobilization in support of continental priorities, reaffirming shared commitment to strengthened and results-oriented cooperation.

In Paris, I was pleased to join H.E. the Chairperson of the African Union Commission in an engagement with African diaspora representatives. Discussions focused on strengthening diaspora participation and integration, facilitating their return to contribute their expertise and skills to the continent, and supporting investment, with the Chairperson reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to enabling these efforts.

Today in Paris, I was honoured to join the Chairperson of the African Union Commission @ymahmoudali at the Élysée Palace for a meeting with H.E. President Emmanuel Macron @EmmanuelMacron. Discussions focused on global governance and economic trends, UNSC reform, as well as strengthening AU–France partnership in peace & security, climate action, and trade.

Earlier today in Paris, I was pleased to join H.E. the Chairperson of the African Union Commission at the 3rd AU–France high-level dialogue with H.E. Jean-Noël Barrot @jnbarrot. Discussions focused on key priorities including peace & security, development, trade and investment, health, and social sectors, as well as preparations for the upcoming France–Africa Forward Summit @francediplo in Nairobi @FranceinKenya.

Encouraging signals from Islamabad—this time both sides seem ready to shift positions toward tangible progress and, ultimately, bring an end to this devastating war

Today in Diani, Kenya, I was honoured to participate in the #Mashariki Cooperation Conference (#MCC) 2026—an important platform advancing African security cooperation at a time of evolving threats. Africa’s security demands greater coherence, stronger partnerships, and reinforced multilateral approaches. I underscored the imperative of enhanced synergy among regional mechanisms, strengthened institutional coherence, and more effective coordination and responsiveness to address increasingly complex and multidimensional security challenges.

Today in Bangui, I had the honour to represent H.E. the AUC Chairperson @ymahmoudali at the inauguration of H.E. Faustin-Archange Touadéra @FA_Touadera. Conveyed the African Union’s congratulations and reaffirmed continued support to the Central African Republic in advancing peace, stability, national reconciliation, and the strengthening of democratic institutions and the rule of law. On the margins of the ceremony, I held substantive exchanges with partner delegations on key priorities of mutual interest, including peace and security, regional integration, and avenues for enhanced cooperation among Member States.

I extend my sincere congratulations to H.E. Nabil Fahmy on his appointment as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States @arableague_gs. His appointment reflects a distinguished career in diplomacy and a steadfast commitment to multilateral engagement at an important juncture for the region and beyond. I also pay tribute to H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit for his exemplary leadership and dedicated service, marked by wisdom, continuity, and a sustained contribution to advancing Arab and inter-regional cooperation. I wish H.E. Fahmy every success in the discharge of his responsibilities.

Yesterday at AU HQ in Addis Ababa, I received H.E. Christine Pirenne @lapirenne, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ethiopia @NLinEthiopia. Discussions focused on developments in the Middle East and their broader implications, highlighting the importance of strengthened cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges. We also noted support to the African Union, including through the AU–EU partnership @EUtoAU, and reaffirmed our shared commitment to multilateralism anchored in international law.

On 27 March in Addis Ababa, I had the honour, on behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to address the commemoration of the International Day of @OIFrancophonie. We highlighted the strategic role of the French language as a tool for diplomacy, dialogue, and effective multilateralism, with Africa at the centre of its future dynamism. We reaffirmed multilingualism as a pillar of cohesion and inclusion, and underscored the AU–OIF partnership in advancing shared priorities.

Today at AU HQ, I received H.E. Guillermo López MacLellan, Ambassador of Spain to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union @EmbSpainAddis, for a constructive exchange on strengthening cooperation between the African Union and Spain, including through the AU–EU partnership @EUtoAU, with focus on coordinated efforts to address terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel, and advancing Agenda 2063 priorities.

During the week at AU HQ in Addis Ababa, I was pleased to meet with Dr. Ville Brummer, Adviser to the President of #Finland @alexstubb and Director of Peace Mediation and Global Partnerships in the President’s Office, alongside H.E. Amb. Sinikka Antila @SinikkaAntila, for a constructive discussion on strengthening AU–Finland cooperation @FinlandinETH and exchanging views on global and regional developments, including the Middle East, maritime security, governance and peace efforts, and the need for coordinated action to promote stability, including in Sudan.
