In January I visited Clamart, near Paris. It’s less than a decade old and its mansion blocks comprise 30pc social housing. It’s not a utopia, but it makes you realise what can still be achieved.

I have never knowingly finished reading an email signed by a human but written by AI. It feels like being lied to, and who would stand for that?

A lot of the emails I get from founders are now written in a hard-hitting journalistic style. I know they're written by AI, because no founder ever wrote this way before. And once you realize something is written by AI, it's hard not to ignore it.

One thing I've learned from using AIs is that the median person is unable to read paragraphs of ordinary prose. Now I understand why so many recently published books consist of snippets of text — what would be called sidebars, if the book weren't composed of them.

Once you become an air conditioning society, you don’t go back. You stop rolling down car windows. Houses become sealed boxes. People move from cooled home to cooled car to cooled office to cooled store. Society goes indoors. Outdoor life becomes diminished.

The reason for this is that it'd put immense strain on an already-stretched power grid during the hottest months. Especially with how badly insulated many homes are. We need to refit our housing stock more than we need air conditioning. That would help in summer and winter.
