@Shpigford @initialcommitco Yeah, I think you're right. It feels like the value of code is quickly dropping to zero, and the value of distribution went up 100x 😅

@sborsje @initialcommitco yeah, was practically just selling a codebase + brand. certainly if these had some customers they'd be more interesting. but they'd also be substantially more work and thus harder to spit them out with regularity. there's a balance somewhere in there. 🤷‍♂️

for the time being i'm gonna put a pause on my @initialcommitco experiment. built three full, well-tested, feature-rich apps over the past 6 weeks and barely made $10k. i generally think there is a market for these sort of "business in a box" things, but i think the timing is tough due to the MASSIVE hype around being able to build anything with AI. i think the hype is justified, but i also think the pendulum will swing back a bit as people realize how there's more to building well-designed, stable software than just a few prompts. still throwing around the idea of turning this into a dutch auction marketplace that others can list on as well as potentially using it in the future for my own stuff. just not committing to creating apps for the sole purpose of selling them every few weeks.

@bylouisjr @PaddleHQ Yeah, I'm giving up on @PaddleHQ . This is the third time I have had a bad experience, but had somehow naively hoped it had improved. 1/5, would not recommend.

@sborsje @PaddleHQ Same issue Stefan! Support has been really poor. It’s been two weeks for me, I’m now in the final review stage but been on that stage for a few days now

@PaddleHQ I am a new customer, and my account has been "in review" for over a week now. Support is barely responding. This is quite a rough start and doesn't inspire much confidence. Are you folks still in business?

@jtaby Harder to unsubscribe is also partially negated by an increase in disputes (+ all the fees/headaches that come with it)

…but what’s the benefit to the developer other than potentially lower churn through harder-to-access unsubscribing? Unless you offer the web checkout at the same price as the Apple checkout, in which case why would users opt for that?

Apple subscription fees go down to 15% after a year, so if you offer a 30% discount to subscribe on web, then it’d be cheaper after a year to have used IAP? Churn rates I imagine will be dramatically lower than on iOS because unsubscribing and notifications will be less prominent

@GergelyOrosz I _really_ don't know what I'm talking about, but didn't HP just pay $100M+ for the left-over VC cash that was still sitting in a bank account somewhere? And basically get the team+assets for free?

And yes, I agree with this: That HP was willing to pay $100M+ for this team is just icing on the cake. After that very poorly received launch, an acquisition looked like the only possible positive outcome. Congrats on them pulling it off! x.com/JadeCole2112/s…
Jade Cole@JadeCole2112

@GergelyOrosz it was the best possible outcome for them TBH.

This might be unpopular to say: but this is a VERY good save by Humane's leadership. Humane raised $230M: which sounds like much, but hardware is expensive! It had a product launch that was (unfortunately) a massive flop. Now sold for $116M and most employees keep their jobs.
Brody Ford@BrodyFord_

NEW: AI pin Humane is shutting down. Startup's software being sold to HP and majority of employees will join, too. w/ @markgurman $HPQ bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

i haven't been keeping up much with AI-assisted macOS/iOS dev over the past few months. what's the best flow these days? (FWIW, i'm a MASSIVE agent-first cursor user, so if there's some use case there...i'm all in)

My short wishlist to make AWS Lambda great again: - Faster CPUs (now 2016 Xeons) - 50mb payloads (now 6mb) - Concurrent executions
