Big thanks to Ms. Rider for allowing Ms. Fowler’s level 1 6th graders to interview her about unaccompanied minors as they research issues around childhood immigration for their IBL projects. Wonderful experience for kids and teachers alike. @MNPS_EL@ItsallThurgood@UnaElementary
Reading, speaking, and writing about ancient civilizations in their countries of origin: my 7th grade level 3/4 students are practicing vocab and structure, addressing current ELA and SS standards, and learning more about their own heritages. Love to see them doing the lifting!
How many good readers know the rules that explain why every /c/ in Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently? If they don't know the rules, how did they learn to pronounce it correctly? Or understand it when they see it in print? (Expl: much of phonics is "acquired," not "learned.")
Feeling so grateful and excited!@ItsallThurgood Marshall MS invested in word-to-word dictionaries in several languages so our students can start using this powerful support and accommodation! @MNPS_EL@MNPSSoutheast
Being culturally responsive is NOT a set of strategies, pre-determined curriculum, watering down the curriculum, "feel-good" approach, or only for students of some backgrounds. Being culturally responsive is a MINDSET, it's a stance, it's dispositions. - Dr. Sonia Nieto #WIDA2019
Co-teachers Lorisa Moran and Denzel Brown lead professional learning on small group instruction for colleagues @ItsallThurgood Marshall MS. Great job, team!! #coteachers
