@PNemiroff I’ve cooked on the franchise over the years, but your stellar opinion of it makes me look forward to seeing it! 🦖

Also really grew to love this new ensemble. The authority and earnestness Scarlett Johansson brings to her role makes her a perfect anchor for the film, and I was especially wowed by how well the movie’s two storylines played together. This is a big movie, but I really dug how focused and intimate it felt. It’s an ideal summer blockbuster-style ride — a riveting and highly entertaining thrill with just enough meat on its bones to add to the evolving themes of the franchise.

#JurassicWorldRebirth is a winner! Gareth Edwards knew just how to bring a Jurassic story to screen. I adore the practical movie magic of the original film. Over the years, the franchise has embraced more CGI. Rebirth is indeed loaded with effects-heavy set pieces, but those digital elements work especially well here because Edwards knew exactly how to ensure the film still had that reach-out-and-touch-it texture — particularly by choosing to film in real locations and shoot the movie on film.

I know we joked about it in the writers room. Technically Terry Silver’s actions did actually lead to Daniel’s kids wearing Cobra Kai gis. :) #CobraKai

@jonhurwitz Did anyone notice in season 5 how silver told Daniel “imagine how easy it’s going to be to wrap cobra Kai gi’s around both your kids” then in season six Sam and Anthony are in cobra Kai gi’s

Cobra Kai Easter Egg that I don’t think we’ve ever talked about publicly and I haven’t seen noticed in the fandom — The house that Johnny gets from Lil Stevie for his family in the finale is the same exact house from Carmen’s fantasy sequence in Season 5, putting a button on Carmen’s happy ending. #CobraKai #EasterEgg

For much of Season 6, Johnny was (kinda) Miyagi Do. It never quite fit. This flyer was created specifically for the final moments of episode 604. The episode currently ends with Daniel frustrated at Johnny because Johnny leaning on Barnes led to Devon and Demetri making the Sekai Taikai over Hawk and Kenny. Not their strongest team. And as Daniel pointedly reminds Johnny, they “have no idea what they’re up against.” From there, we filmed a close up of this flyer with a hand coming in and grabbing it. Reveal Kreese, who to this point had been confined to Korea and was seemingly off the board to Johnny and Daniel, as the man who grabbed it. He looks at the flyer and crumbles it. And off a venomous John Kreese, we ENDSNAKE. The scene worked just fine, but we had already ended episodes 601 and 602 on Kreese and we prefer to mix things up. Plus, we thought it made Kreese’s reveal in the parking garage with Tory in 605 more surprising since the audience hadn’t seen Kreese in the Valley yet. A good cut. But this poster makes me laugh. All the design choices were made specifically to frustrate Kreese — his prized student turned mortal enemy dressed in a Miyagi Do gi inside Miyagi’s old house, standing side by side with that twerp Daniel La Russo. Now partners. Disgusting. It was a fun creative exercise, but after seeing Johnny back in black later in the season, it now just feels wrong. #CobraKai #BehindTheScenes #props #Netflix

@scaperanya Hi, of the 12 vids that still exist, could I use between 46 seconds to 7 minutes for my project? I’d credit you. The 46 sec is what I’m fairly desperate for, to fill gaps no one else caught. The rest would be nice to have to increase visibility to others on stage. [1 more msg]

We had a lot of stressful moments while making Cobra Kai, but we definitely saved the craziest for last. The final scene we ever filmed was the yacht fight between Kreese and Silver. The stakes were extremely high not only because of the scene’s importance, but also because it was expensive and a logistical nightmare to pull off. For greater context, we had a split crew during the first half of the day. Hayden and I were on the beach with Ralph and Billy filming their final footage for the show — more on that in a future post. Meanwhile, Josh and Joe Piarulli were on the docked yacht filming the Silver scenes from 611 and getting started with the Silver/Dennis scenes from 614, which Hayden and I joined them for. After lunch, we finished with Silver and Dennis and then went off to sea. Before we knew it, we only had 90 minutes to film the entire scene between Kreese and Silver, including the fight and all the dialogue. In that time, we also needed all our drone footage, which included some material from 611. Basically an impossible amount of material to pick up without a miracle. Making things even more tenuous was how rocky the sea was that day. During rehearsal, it was difficult to stay balanced while just standing. If I were in Martin Kove’s place, I would personally be terrified I’d fall off the boat when filming. And I’m not in my late 70s. For close ups, we decided to have stuntmen below frame holding Marty’s legs. For wide shots, we had to cross our fingers and pray. In the end, the film Gods looked down on us that day. The actors crushed their lines, the run and gun fight went smoothly, and the sea stayed calm enough to keep everyone aboard. Joe had to direct his 611 establishers from a nearby raft over FaceTime, but I didn’t have to make the call I was dreading, begging for an extra day of filming on a pricey yacht instead of finishing our shoot as expected. We wrapped fulfilled and on time, then celebrated 6 seasons over ice ice cold cocktails. The way it was meant to be. #CobraKai #Netflix #BehindTheScenes
