the entire point of programming has always been to automate everything.

Not bleak at all. Totally normal, just not talked about enough in the Tech/Data community. This behavior is normalized for Med students to work/study 60-80 hour weeks for 4-8 years in their late 20s and early 30s, but then they get to make $400k - $900k the rest of their career. Why shouldn't AI folks do the same... similar sized $$$ waiting at FAANG/Anthropic/OpenAI if done right.

Feature flags are great for frontend, usually bad for backend. Only use them when it’s safe to enable/disable them at any time without changing how state is persisted.
