Indian Banks in GIFT city offer USD savings rates up to 4.75% and 4.5% on FDs. Tax-free in India. It is hard to beat the savings rate even in INR in India. Only for NRIs though. To know more, subscribe to thefynprint.com magazine. New issue will be released today!

*Telangana Intentions Weekly Tracker for 20th August 2023* The significant change from the last week is for BJP which lost 2%. while BRS gained a 0.5% and INC lost 0.7%. There is a clear dominance for BRS in North Telangana, West Telangana and GHMC Regions. INC has a clear lead in East Telangana and closely in contest with BRS in South Telangana. BJP is second in GHMC region. @HKasula @schandra_100

@marinebharat I'm a resident from Visakhapatnam, we actually don't need a metro, look at Hyd metro it is still experiencing huge loss, we have excellent wide roads, but if we excel in maintain those roads and replace the old buses with probably Ac ones or new ones, we will be good ❤️💯

Metro in Vizag would be a waste of resources. As a mumbaikar I travel to vizag often and the commute time is quite low and hasn’t deteriorated over the years. In fact a couple of flyovers have cut down airport commute time. I suspect the new airport will need better access

@schandra_100 the idea of this kind of result in itself could cost INC another 10-15 seats!! BJP is surely doing much better for the kind of negativity people have about it.

More broadly offering broad margins might be more helpful Roughly, this is where things stand in Karnataka as with 2 week go to the polls: Total seats 224 BJP 93-103 INC 85-95 JDS 32-37 Oth 1-3 It is all going to boil down to roughly 20 seats where there is dead heat!

I will soon be releasing my district-wise predictions for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections Caveat: unlike the last time, I haven’t been able to travel as extensively. This would be my educated guess based on my understanding of the state & inputs from the ground
Dr Sachin Reddy@snsachinnandu

Final updated numbers for Karnataka Assembly Polls: (Change since 2013) Final consolidated numbers Total 224 seats BJP 103(+63) INC 79 (-43) JDS 40(0) Oth 2(-20) (I’m calling it a hung assembly with BJP as SLP. Massive downfall of INC.) RT

@India_Progress Two major reasons why 1. Adjacency to Consumer Markets - Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and HK, were affluent markets in 1979. TN and no Indian state has these kind of neighbours 2. China had an oil surplus until the late 1990s.

@somnath1978 India's levels of Industrialization were very low in 1947 even if it was better than China's. The difference is as China's neighbors took off, China had affluent markets around it by 1980. All their factories were set up literally on the borders of these neighbors.

@dhume @somnath1978 Governance is not a good predictor even if there are some causal effects. Look at India, almost all the affluent states are on the sea or near Delhi the capital. It is not a coincidence. Same with China.

@somnath1978 Indian politics seems incapable of throwing up a single leader who openly espouses meritocracy as Deng Xiaoping did in China or Lee Kuan Yew did in Singapore. There’s a lot of overheated talk in India of “national greatness,” but little curiosity about the path others have taken.

@somnath1978 They were roughly at our level because they wasted 20 years killing each other. They had three big advantages over us in 1947 - Not completely destroyed by the British - No Shortage of Crude Oil until the late 1990s - Distance to Affluent Markets like Japan, HK, Taiwan, and Korea

Lost in the recent media frenzy (some of which was "clickbaity") over USD losing its reserve currency status is that most folks don't have enough appreciation of the two separate aspects of it 1) exchange goods and services denominated in USD 2) buy UST with trade surpluses
Lyn Alden@LynAldenContact

@donnelly_brent I think it's pretty clear that the war accelerated things. Countries don't want 100% reserves in USD. They want to diversify, not replace USD with CNY. It's normal for countries to have more decentralized payment/reserve arrangements anyway. twitter.com/LynAldenContac…

@TrueIndology Could you please recheck this? Alluri had begun his campaign in 1922 while Netaji returned to India in 1921. Looks like a very small window for Alluri to have met Netaji. But who knows...thanks

When Subhas Bose visited Vizag, he address a large gathering. Bose said it was a time to make sacrifices. Bose asked if anybody was ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of nation. Alluri came forward & declared he would happily sacrifice his life. Bose garlanded Alluri.

The film #RRR earned an Oscar. This film was inspired by a Hindu Sanyasi named Alluri Sitarama Raju. Alluri Sitarama Raju used to travel from village to village & preach Bhagavad Gita among tribals. He urged Hindus to revolt against foreign rule. A thread about his life🧵
