Very depressing day for anyone remotely interested in Iranian industrial development. The bastards know exactly what they are hitting. This is going to set us back for at least a decade and severely hurt reconstruction efforts after the war.

What does it matter? Your “Daddy” Trump has already ordered that @TSA get paid. So the latest idiotic malfeasance from the @GOP bottom feeders in the US House of Representatives is merely performative. Or alternatively, that Executive Order from Trump claiming he was going to pay @TSA is another drug fueled fantasy from the Senile Octogenarian in Chief, who can’t even stay awake in meetings:

@realMaalouf Personally I am on the side of the Persians running Iran. It is their country, was their country for literally centuries, if not millennia. I am a not a historian, and not spending time looking it up. Even christian bible says millennia it was ruled by Persians.

Yes, although Democrats didn’t actually achieve anything. They caused a 40+ day shutdown & ended up getting zero policy changes to the agency they’re demonizing, which has been funded the whole time. And Rs say they’ll fund that agency further through reconciliation anyway. I guess the win was causing the harm and pain without really getting punished for it & showing unity in resistance.

The Senate has voted to fund DHS *except for* ICE and Border Patrol. This happened after a Trump threat, but how is it not a big Democratic win? In the past, the party that attached conditions to re-opening the government, or parts of the government, lost the shutdown. Now, Democrats have gotten away with attaching conditions to re-opening the government, and Republicans have agreed to a deal funding most of DHS, but not its immigration enforcement and deportation operations. What was the big Republican mistake here? Negotiating. You don't negotiate with people who are shutting down all or part of the government. The proper response to a threatened shutdown is: "Re-open the government, and then we'll talk about your issue. But first the government has to be re-opened." That is always the public's view. Instead, the GOP agreed to start talks. Once that happened, it legitimized the Democratic position of shutting down part of the government, in this case TSA, while demanding changes in immigration enforcement. Instead of seeing Democrats shutting down TSA over an unrelated policy dispute, the public saw two sides negotiating and unable to agree. So they blamed everybody when this was, in fact, a Democratic move to cripple the administration's enforcement of federal immigration law.

The GOP are freaking COWARDS. They screwed us AGAIN while we were sleeping. Senate passes bill to fund most of DHS, WITHOUT funding ICE and most of CBP. The House will now vote before going to Trump’s desk.

The announced deployment of a Parachute Infantry Regiment from the 82nd Airborne Division will force the regime into a crisis decision spiral - "where and what can we defend?" The movement of strained regime forces to defend key terrain will provide our ISR assets and pilots a target rich environment.

@RyanAFournier The Dems tried to roll back funding for ICE already passed in the Bid Beautiful Bill. They cannot roll back previous approved spending in appropriations bills. The Dems got nothing but working class people suffering. But we'll see the media spin.

🚨BREAKING: The Senate just passed a bill that funds DHS but completely cuts out ICE. UNBELIEVABLE. John Thune is a massive RINO sellout and a total traitor to the America First movement. He completely caved when we need border enforcement the most. Now it goes to the House. House Republicans better step up, grow a spine, and KILL this disastrous bill! We are watching!

Absolute confirmation that ICE is not just doing routine screening of airline passengers. “We’re going to arrest criminals going through the airport. We’re going to look for human trafficking, sex trafficking, money smuggling. We’re going to be at the airports, working with our brothers and sisters from TSA,” Border czar Tom Homan said.

This statement strongly implies that members of Congress were informed by the administration today that ground operations are all but declared on Iranian territory. Let me categorically state: there is nothing of strategic significance such a tiny force of a few thousand marines and airborne troops could accomplish. It will not open the Straits. It will not compel the Iranian gov to collapse or surrender. Sending these men into combat on a militarily unattainable mission is reprehensible. If the president orders this operation, all the casualties that result will be an egregious and flagrant sacrifice of their lives to satisfy one man’s pride and arrogance, but in no way, shape or form, will they have died defending their country. If I were a family member of any of these troops and my loved one was sent to death for the vanity of one man, I would be outraged. As it turns out, I am outraged anyway, and all Americans should be if the lives of our service members are held in such content by our political leadership.
Rep. Nancy Mace@RepNancyMace

Just walked out of a House Armed Services briefing on Iran. Let me repeat: I will not support troops on the ground in Iran, even more so after this briefing.

So, we must face reality. The ONLY way this war would be over soon is the total destruction of Iran and the end of the Islamic Republic. There is no possibility of long-term peace without regime change. Trump may be looking for an off-ramp, but he has been played.

THE REAL SHIFT U.S. and Iran are going back to the negotiating table. But not on the same terms as Iran turned the tables. This is the real failure. A failure born of arrogance, miscalculation and poor judgment: from both Washington and Tel Aviv.

Are Rho Khanna's concerns about ENDING the war with Iran actually VALID? "I just want the war to end. If the President wants to declare victory and say we've degraded their Navy, we've degraded their ballistic missiles, and the war is going to end. I would be fine with that. I spoke to the State Department, making that point, that there are a number of progressive Democrats who just want the war to end and to give the President an off-ramp to do so. I do believe if the president committed to stopping bombing and got Israel to stop bombing, that Iran would stop hitting the Strait of Hormuz, and we could get to Oman to have a mediated settlement. But really, my vision and my goal right now is to end the war, not to score political points against the president, but just to not get us entangled in another war of choice in the Middle East."
