Played in a very special blitz tournament at @bucerius_law today. Was very happy to get paired with @PHChess. Here I played the nice shot Nd5, which isn't really so strong but managed to unsettle Peter (1/3).

Unfortunately for me, Peter defended well and I spent too much time (1-0). Still managed a good result with 5/7. Unfortunately, I was too shy to compliment @fionchetta on her fine interviews at @tatasteelchess. Many thanks to the organizers @FCStPauliSchach. (3/3)

@davidllada I remember him from the 1990s when he played for the Hamburger Schachklub and everyone just referred to him as "Mov". His daredevil style left quite an impression, although it did not always help his results. Good to see that he seems to doing well.

@schmidtschi I think so. 1.Bxg7 Bxg3 2.Qg4 Bxh2+ 3. Kxh2 and material is level but Black's king position looks terminal. Maybe Black can try 3...h5 4.Qg3 h4 5.Qg4 f5 though. So actually I'm unsure! Of course 1...Kxg7 loses to Nf5+ and Nxd6 with a fork.

@Bodenseeperlen In the game I got a 2nd and even a 3rd pawn but the engine's verdict is merciless.

@schmidtschi Checking with my silicon friend. Good thing is he has to go 3...Kf8. Looks like there should be play against the open king, but the machine is not impressed (as usual). Takes too long to get both rooks involved probably.

@Bodenseeperlen Of course I saw it the second my opponent took on g3. Still tried fxg3 and got some play, but it is just lost.

Except that there is a whole curriculum (Step Method) where there is strong emphasis precisely on the concepts of capturing, attacking, defending, and taking unprotected pieces.
Maybe you should get more familiar with literature and read some CHESS BOOKS before making such claims

You sometimes hear that the first thing you need to learn in chess is tactics, but this is wrong. Before tactics you have to master taking pieces: can you avoid hanging your pieces, and take the free pieces your opponent gives you? Until you can do this 99.9% of the time, nothing else in chess matters. Chess also isn’t very fun when you’re hanging pieces left and right. A big thing we’re missing in chess instruction is a structured and efficient way to master taking pieces.
