The Miss Katie Woodie Foundation, Republic Services and members of the Walter Hill School community joined forces this morning to dedicate the school's new outdoor STEAM classroom and to install landscaping. The classroom was built and all materials were purchased through grants from both the company and the foundation. Katie Woodie is a beloved former teacher at the school who passed away in 2020, and her family created the foundation in her name to support the school and teachers. The classroom is named in her honor. "She was one of those teachers who everybody knew and everybody loved and all the students wanted to be in her classroom," Walter Hill Principal Laura Heath said during today's dedication of the classroom.
