I’m excited to share my first postdoctoral work where we captured the first high resolution structure of the bacterial magnesium transporter MgtA! This project allowed me to learn cryo with @DoreenMatthies, molecular simulations with @AlexSodt and function with @storzlab.

How does cellular stress affect #RNA? We sequence entire RNA molecules with @nanopore sequencing. We find 👉Global RNA decay mediated by XRN1, independent of poly(A) tail! 👉Decay absolutely depends on stress-granule formation! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

In a new paper in @Nature, an impressive and creative series of insights led @DDunkelmann and coworkers in Jason Chin’s lab to develop a powerful, general in vitro selection for aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase enzymes that charge tRNAs with a wide variety of small molecules, including those not necessarily compatible with known ribosome variants (yet). They used this system to create aaRSs that enable beta-amino acids and alpha,alpha-disubstituted amino acids to be site-specifically incorporated into proteins, solved the structure of GFP containing meta-brominated beta-phenylalanine as the third residue as confirmation, and advanced the non-canonical biopolymer field forward in the process. Wow. Brilliantly explained in the thread below. 👏👏🍻

Anyone able to recommend vertical PAGE rigs for preparative RNA purification after T7 transcription? I inherited all my PhD Adviser Olke Uhlenbeck's old gel rigs when he retired, but they were all custom built, so I need to find commercially available replacements.
