AI needs a lot more power and this is a tremendous opportunity to pull new sources of cheap clean energy forward. The machine is deceptively simple - simply = cheap and easy manufacture. Some of the best ideas often have the reaction “why didn’t someone do this before?” - I think we’ll see that here

Today we're announcing @_panthalassa’s $140M Series B, led by Peter Thiel, with participation from John Doerr and many other incredible investors. The mission: unlock the ocean as another planetary-scale energy resource for humanity. First stop: compute.

Great chat with @Waymo CPO @saswat101 just now. I was already a Waymo super-fan because of their approach to safety - but walking through the logs of my ride + taking feedback on how to improve the UI and experience makes me a ultra-super-fan. So great to see a company doing it right.

Had a scary @Waymo ride just now. Said it had to pull off highway suddenly, then stopped short before a major intersection. Started moving erratically so I jumped out of the car while the light was red. It’s still stopped blocking a lane on 84/woodside. Calling support from car didn’t work so wonder if it was a network issue?

How much of the interference market in 2028 is models/kv cache sizes requiring a full rack (NVL72) v.s. a single nodel (B300/NVL8 or equivalent)? Asking for a friend!

Same thing happened to me at the exact same time last night We were on the 101, was raining decently hard Out of nowhere Waymo says it has to pull over Support said it wasn't from the rain but because there was an 'event' (likely something emergency services related) that had restricted the geofence including where we were supposed to drive through The funniest part was that somehow two Support people were piped into the car, one clearly more senior from a nearby office and then someone from overseas, talking to me and over/at each other at the same time Was certainly an inconvenience with the rain and my suitcase but was handled well IMO. Did not feel unsafe at any point Will it change my choice as a consumer in markets where the product is available? No, I am in one right now

@schrep 90% is good. But I don’t take those odds crossing the street or driving. I want 99.99999% or better. That’s why I’m betting on Tesla. Already super safe, virtually 100%, but still some rough non-safety edges to smooth out.

To be clear I’m a super fan of Waymo - especially their approach to publishing safety data in a way others can verify. Also long on self driving. Vehicle injuries are a preventable tragedy. In a Waymo again now!

@schrep How did you jump out? You have to terminate the ride first before you can get out the door. Nice story though. Got to work on the detail, though 🤭

@typesfast I’ve been wondering - do they train to do disabling fire? Pretty precise at this distance to only hit engine room?

@schrep @Waymo Today? When it was raining? You took a Waymo on the highway in the rain? With their lidar issues? Are you crazy?
