@HowieDewitt7 @AndyBurnhamGM @justin33jMonty I think you have got that wrong. London and the South East have long had their business rates raided to fund the North.
English

@sciolisthjf @AndyBurnhamGM @justin33jMonty Its about time the South chipped in.
Been all one way too long.

Good news for passengers in Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Salford and Manchester.
When we retake control of buses in the west of GM next month, there will be a range of improvements to services.

@paullewismoney @theipaper That’s not accurate Paul. You may clarify in the article, but the fact is that rather than definitely not winning, the chance of a win is vanishingly small. Better than spending £5 on the National Lottery where after 1 chance you lose your £5.
English

@Jeremy_Hunt You didn’t get down to me in Stonebridge as I’d have liked a chat about your appalling policies on immigration, funding public healthcare and public transport. Shame. Or do you avoid doorsteps where Ring cameras will record your interactions.
English

@TimWardCam @TPointUK @fi0namac That must explain why one of the consultants currently treating me in hospital refer to themselves as Mr but others refer to him as Professor.
English

@sciolisthjf @TPointUK @fi0namac I'm used to the convention that you use only such of your titles as are relevant to the issue at hand. So I guess that calling himself "president" re allegations of election fraud and insurrection is fair enough, but not re the various other allegations he's facing.

@davidareader @ruxxnaqvi One of the memorable high points of our trip along the Calder & Hebble and Rochdale - let down unfortunately by subsequent low points.
English

@ruxxnaqvi It's grey and damp the other side of the hill, but looks like it'll be a gorgeous day here.
Reminds me I'm long overdue a day off & out ..

@AndyBurnhamGM @justin33jMonty Shame you don’t extend senior concessions to the trams, especially, as living in the South East , but outside London, I’m well aware that our local taxation is subsidising the North West. (Same applies to TfL, of course, but without the subsidy argument)
English

@justin33jMonty Two things: (1) it’s not, as it should reduce congestion; (2) given we’re making combined bus and tram travel 20% cheaper, perhaps this is a good time to start using them?
English

@wpoel Interestingly this is a rare political post from Bill that I agree with, only of course the worst 4 year president, Donald Trump, was neither - just a “businessman” and TV personality.
English

The most successful country in the world over the past 20 years has been China, where the majority of the leaders are engineers by background. The most degenerate countries of the West, notably the US and European Union, are led by lawyers.

@TimWardCam @TPointUK @fi0namac I think President is a title of respect to ex-presidents. Though how anyone can be respectful towards Trump entirely evades me.

🚨 We found killer carbon monoxide alarms for sale on Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Wish and AliExpress. They failed to meet British Standard detection standards, which undoubtedly makes them incredibly dangerous.

@WhichUK I hope all the marketplace sellers you list have immediately removed them from sale and recalled them from people they’ve endangered by selling them to.

@SimonCalder Contrast this with DFDS Ferries. I accidentally booked two crossings England to France rather that one each way. When we spotted this in a panic at the ferry terminal, they happily swapped the wrong direction one free of charge.

Ryanair charged Ruth and Peter Jaffe (aged 79 and 80) £110 when they inadvertently checked in for the inbound, not outbound, flight: “We regret that these passengers ignored their email reminder and failed to check-in online.”
“It horrified me,” says Ruth.

In a video, the Prime Minister said he was “ensuring that the only way to come to the UK for asylum will be through safe and legal routes”.
There are currently no safe and legal routes by which to travel to the UK for the purpose of claiming asylum.

@davidareader @jonfeatonby @fascinatorfun Absolutely! How many civil servant man hours does it take to process an asylum seeker? If the effort and funds poured into unsuitable accommodation were spent on staff to process the backlog and new arrivals, where is the break even point?
English

@jonfeatonby @fascinatorfun but if they processed the applications, and eliminated the backlog, they'd no longer have something to rally their rabid nationalist supporters about AND no longer have a reason to shovel public money to favoured commercial interests.

@cookiesworld @CheshireEast @WilmslowTC But after time, everyone will just create a new rough path on the right of the barriers, circumventing them completely.
English

The year is 2023 and we need more active travel, so why on earth are these barriers being put in @CheshireEast @WilmslowTC? They could have used a single bollard it would have been cheaper, and enabled disabled and non standard cycle users past

@CanalRiverTrust A note of thanks to the Northwest teams of Billie and Richard and later Mike and Sam for helping us on the Rochdale Canal yesterday. Taking an entire wheelie bin of rubbish from the paddle channel and fixing winding gear at lock 69 and getting us through lock 79.
