@CathyCarrWrites It seems like everything is New York and the East Coast. If anything is in the West, it's usually still urban or sometimes suburban. There are a lot of stories to be told in rural California and the open spaces of the West. #MGBookChat

This makes me remember a question I've had for a while. Is there any American geographical region you feel is underrepresented in current MG? For me I'd love to see more books set in the Midwest (that aren't condescending about the region) and the West. You? #mgbookchat

What MG are you reading or re-reading right now? I just finished re-reading @lucyknisley's APPLE CRUSH. I love her graphic novels. I have a girl who's not ready for romance in my next MG, so wanted to revisit how Knisley handled that topic. #mgbookchat

@sjsubity @john_zeleznik @andrewauseon @CathyCarrWrites Yes to gore! You can tell by the cover and the blurb how gory it may be so I warn students about the content before they read it. It also depends on how it’s written. A lot of my readers check out the forensic science nonfiction books for this reason alone. #MGBookChat

#mgbookchat So, I'm curious--as teachers and librarians, is there a topic you'd like to see an MG book tackle, or a type of book you'd like to see more of for your readers (for example, suspense, horror, or humor)?

@john_zeleznik Understandable! Think of it like learning an instrument. You want to play cool stuff right away, but frustration is inevitable. The more you practice, though, the more confident you get. #MGBookChat

@scorho @muellerspace @ffarokhi @CathyCarrWrites I grew up in tornado country and would definitely take that over earthquakes. A giant earthquake could literally hit right this second out of nowhere, but you always know when a tornado is coming. #mgbookchat

Hello! Fallon here, I used to say that I am a K-6 school librarian in Kansas City but now I’m going to be a 9-12 (high school) librarian in California! I just finished up with the school year and turned in my keys today. Lots of mixed emotions… #MGBookChat

@muellerspace @ffarokhi @CathyCarrWrites I spent most of my life in earthquake country, including the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. I would absolutely take that over tornadoes. Lots of smaller quakes, but one serious one every 50-80 years, or multiple tornadoes per year? Easy choice. #MGBookChat
