Sorry. No Beatles = No Stones. The Rolling Stones were never a Pop band. Their very underrated most extraordinary achievement has been crossing over from the Rock world to the Pop world for 60 years. But it never would have happened if the Beatles hadn't given them their 2nd single after their 1st one bombed. The Beatles were so important at that moment, radio HAD to play anything and everything that had their name on it. And that's the only way Radio and Radio's Pop audience got a chance to get used to Mick Jagger's voice. He's one of the greatest singers of all time as we all know, but he didn't have a traditionally commercial Pop voice. It was more conversational, more R&B influenced. And it was all important acceptance of Mick Jagger's voice at Pop radio that allowed for equally uncommercial voices to be accepted at Pop radio. Everyone from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen, for two examples.
