This 💯 I left the industry after 32 years. The state has failed in areas of forest management and fire mitigation. This includes brush management & allowing utilities to clear under their lines. As such, failed leadership at the state level passed the increased financial exposure directly to the insurance companies…while also denying higher rates for solvency (claim paying ability). Rates have to be approved by the CA DOI and they have blocked these attempts for years. CA is one of the few states that doesn’t allow insurance companies to factor future exposure/risk into their rate proposals. Given a choice, consumers would be better off paying 20-40% more for comprehensive coverage rather than seeing their carriers stop offering coverage, cancelling existing policies, and potentially leaving the state. As consumers, we will have fewer choices, worse coverage, and ultimately pay more because of the burdensome regulations & DOI incompetency.
