@CynicalPublius Agree with all of this and the elation. But,... Not accurate that Virginia started all this really. Didn't Trump and Texas? Then Cali. Also love the irony that they (VA) had an exemplary non-partisan commission process before and chose to run away from it.

RE: Gerrymandering In case you missed it, the Virginia Supreme Court just invalidated the gerrymandering plan that Governor Abigail "The White Witch" Spanberger got the Commonwealth's voters to approve via disinformation, illegal procedures, stealth and confusing/misleading ballot initiative language. Which is actually incredibly humorous. You see, the rabidly anti-democratic nature of that Virginia plan motivated red states to do something similar, except legal. Then, coincidentally, the US Supreme Court said that race-based legislative districts are unlawful, so now Southern red states are doing what Virginia wanted to do, except they are doing it legally and eliminating those unconstitutional, race-based districts that have been in place for decades. Today, Virginia, who started all this nonsense, got their whole scheme demolished while the other states--who did what they did largely in response to Virginia--have their new plans legally in place. All of this might have locked in the House for the GOP in the mid-terms. The irony is glorious and the schadenfreude is delicious. In other words, the whole sequence of events is ***schadenfreudelicious***!

Someone told me once that the optimal strategy in Rock Paper Scissors is to choose paper every single time. It's why I always try to be honest and do what I say I'm going to do. No one expects it.

@JCNSeverino I don't think it's physically possible to scream so loudly a wall shakes, which makes me wonder just how exaggerated that anonymous report is.

This is absolutely outrageous. That the liberal justices weren’t willing to work quickly to finish their Dobbs dissents given security concerns is bad enough. That Kagan was actively bullying her colleagues into slow walking the opinions when doing so almost led to an assassination is next level. Justice Thomas has commented about how much he valued the type of collegiality the Court used to have. Breyer was a gentleman and part of that old guard. Kagan has been implicated in very political behind-the-scenes dealings before (like vote trading in the Obamacare case), but this takes the cake. Fantastic reporting from my friend @mzhemingway in her new book, "Alito." foxnews.com/politics/kagan…

@mcuban @NateSilver538 So basically the top current NBA teams become just like Duke. Every year the top rookies choose to play for the top 1-5 teams. Who is the Duke of the NBA each year? It becomes the Kobe model . Which team has best chance at title? No thanks, reduces chance bad teams improve.

I proposed to the nba that the worst team gets allocated cap room, for rookies only , in the amount equal to the 1st pick. Next to worst record, gets allocated the cap room for the 2nd pick, etc. They would then have to convince the rookies they want, to come play for them. Much like they do with free agents when they have cap room. In an NIL world , the best players already have made good money. They would go to teams they think puts them in the best position to succeed. And it wouldn’t be perennial tankers, or poor organizations that they choose. Tanking would get you the most rookie cap room. But you better have your act together if you want the best players

You're going to see a lot of NBA draft reform proposals. Here's ours: replace the NBA draft with an auction.

Losing my brother and retiring from the law at the same time, while taking on new challenges, has left me in an overly emotive and philosophical mood, so please excuse what I am about to do, which some will label engagement farming. But I really am interested in hearing what people think about what I’m about to say. I helped my nephew put together a playlist of popular songs that defined his father---songs his father loved that defined him. What three popular songs would define you at your funeral? (Putting aside for this purpose faith-based hymns, which I think most people would pick.) Here are mine: 1. “Body of an American,” by The Pogues. 2. “American Soldier,” by Toby Keith. 3. “You Can Get It If You Really Want,” by Jimmy Cliff. How about you?

@CynicalPublius Love your writing CP, but this one strains credibility a bit. They failed to control the ICE disaster in MN and that is hurting them big time. See Texas congressional election for one data point. A lot of Trump voters can't stand the MN mess. Way over the line I'm afraid.

RE: The Master Plan MAGAs need to understand how the Trump Administration is currently thinking. I know many of you are unhappy that all your dreams did not instantly come true the day after Inauguration Day, but the actual fact is that when Trump took office his team IMMEDIATELY blasted off like gangbusters. In one year we have seen more productive conservative change in the federal government than with every other GOP president since Reagan combined. Trump has significantly degraded the Deep State in a way most of us could only dream of ten years ago. Moreover, Trump’s economic policies are bearing fruit right now and we will likely see a very strong economy by the midterms. But… Ah yes, the midterms. I know so many of you will only be happy when Bill Clinton, Hillary, Obama and Joe Biden are in jail, but you need to join the world of reality. Right now Trump and his team are gauging everything they do through the lens of “How will this effect the midterms?” They have sophisticated polling that you and I will never see, and at the moment every Trump action is tempered by “Let’s be aggressive but not in such a way it turns public opinion against us before the midterms.” Trump knows that if he loses the midterms, all is lost. The Dems will constantly impeach him and most of his cabinet, and even if the Senate never convicts, the acts of impeachment will grind the Trump machine to a halt. The midterms are everything. So I’m warning you, from now until November you are going to see a less aggressive Trump. If you are a Doomster for whom nothing is ever enough, you need to understand why that is. But here is the good news. I believe that one day after the midterms Trump will once again go shock and awe for a year, and then back off again in 2028 to get JD or Rubio elected. (For example, I can easily see Trump taking zero drastic action in the near term to further inflame the Minnesota situation, but invoking the Insurrection Act the day after the midterms and sending in the 82nd.) Since the Super Bowl is coming up, consider it this way: In the first quarter, Trump ran up the score. In the second quarter, he went prevent defense to hold onto the lead. After halftime, once again in the third quarter he will run up the score, and then hold the lead in the fourth quarter to win the game. This is not Qtard “trust the plan” nonsense. This is simply good political strategy. Everyone needs to realize two things: (1) the Constitution includes checks and balances that inherently weaken the absolute power of each branch and (2) even though they are in the minority, Democrats still have a HUGE say. Our system is DESIGNED THIS WAY. We have to account for the opposition—you cannot ignore them. With that in mind, I have every confidence that Trump and his team will navigate through a treacherous course and come out on the winning side. I'm hoping this post makes the things you see in the months ahead more comprehensible. Have a nice day.
