MPs are blaming regulator OfCom for the disaster at Royal Mail. This is a red herring. Ofcom can’t fix Royal Mail. To fix Royal Mail, let’s take it into public ownership and run it in the interest of households, not the profits of a Czech Billionaire.

Interesting debate about licenced to practice. I am a fan of anything that keeps officers & staff up-to-date & relevant. However, licenced to lead would make more sense.

@BikeSgt @gmhales The largest forces with enforce their will on the smaller forces. Standards will be dropped to the lowest performer. They will pool national resources like Road Policing and reduce the numbers and effectiveness. It will take 20 years to combine databases and computer systems.

@gmhales What Crime/Custody/Command and Control system. Who will do the back record conversion? What Fleet/Workshops? Which force priorities? Which uniform policy? Postings policies? SLAs with local partners? Procurement? Payroll? Local free travel? Force specific allowances?

Some initial ££ Qs about force mergers: - How will precept harmonisation work? - How will transition costs be paid for? - Will investment be maintained in the meantime? - Will reform of the funding formula now be abandoned? - When will the economies of scale deliver savings?
