Modern Warfare 2019 has its fair share of problems but there’s no denying it was a hugely revolutionary game for the Call of Duty franchise and brought its player base to new heights: - HUGE Engine overhaul - Some of the best weapon animations - Amazing visual fidelity - First game with free DLC - Ditching Supply Drops - Phenomenal campaign - First game with solid overarching post launch story - Warzone It managed to bring back old players and bring in new players en mass. Regardless of what you think about the game, Call of Duty has just been following the exact same boring formula since Vanguard. The same game over and over with minor changes. We need another innovative COD game to push the franchise forward into the next era. We can’t just keep repeating the past. So much of recent years has just been cheap ploys at nostalgia pulls: - Verdansk back - Blackout back - Black Ops 2 sequel - OG Zombies Crew back And most likely, MW4 will not be anything new and again just pull on nostalgia strings. All of these have failed to bring engagement long term because they’re not new. We can’t just keep trying to recapture the past. All of these were not supported well for longevity. Just look at the first two years of Warzone support compared to currently. We thought the first few “live events” (Cold War reveal, Nuke event etc.) were just a taste of the what’s to come, and then they’ve pretty much never gone beyond them and have abandoned them entirely. There used to be a story and Easter eggs to follow across the games building so much hype, now there’s nothing. It’s all just random stuff that doesn’t make sense.
