@davenport_jl @SethC1995 So translating them makes it more accessible and attempts to convey the meaning and importance of them to an audience not familiar with that culture. Of course a lot is lost in translation,so if you want to avoid the lolcalizers and enjoy it more, you will have to learn japanese

@davenport_jl @SethC1995 Unless you were raised in such a culture, you probably won't understand either the importance and meaning of scenes where the characters finally drop the honorifics (I speak japanese and also have a hard time with it because I wasn't raised on a strong hierarchical culture)

I never realized how hostile some people get when Japanese honorifics are dropped from English translations. I've always been one to drop them or substitute them for something equivalent if it's a setting other than Japan. Is that *really* bad translation?

@LolRheno @dantolius1 @MePeterNicholls @adhee1673 And it was not necessary at all because at that point they didn't even have that much of a strong market position. And worth mentioning they reached that position mainly by optimizing processes and beating the competition in price.

@davenport_jl @SethC1995 Let me put it easier with an example, if you are watching a Korean drama, do you want your subtitles to append -ssi or -nim suffixes after names, or would you prefer to have a translation of the honorifics?

@davenport_jl @SethC1995 Removing them can in many instances heavily affect the story and enjoyment, and leaving them in the original language would make most of the audience miss the importance or not understand at all in the case of people unfamiliar with Japanese culture.

@davenport_jl @SethC1995 Explain the difference between -chan and -tan. No Google. In the west high schoolers also don't refer to each other by their surnames. It sounds off because it comes from a culture with strong hierarchy. San, kun, sama sounds less off because you dont really understand them.

@SethC1995 I hate it. Your audience almost universally knows what the honorifics are, and the replacements are extremely, extremely clunky. Reading Dandadan and having Okarun calling Momo, "Miss Ayase" makes the skin crawl. High schoolers do not call each other Mr/Miss. It's crazy. And

@EmiyaFlowers @SandraOracle @JayExci @__homericburner So when there is 2 candidates with similar or equal qualifications, the final decision is based on the race or sex of the candidate? Yeah indeed this doesn't sound like special rights at all, I apologize.

@lynettepillled @StatisticUrban @JoshuaDone In the past when humanity was living in absolute poverty we already had multiple systems to take care of the disabled, what makes you think our current wealthy societies cannot organize something similar without the state?

At a certain point you simply have to say to the libertarians "no, wrong." An orphaned baby does in fact have the human right not to starve to death in the street. Any form of society that can't guarantee that right is bad.

@LolRheno @dantolius1 @MePeterNicholls @adhee1673 It was forced to split and at that point they already were losing market share due to some poor decisions, no anti trust law needed. Check the article I linked in the follow up message.

@StatisticUrban @JoshuaDone There is currently waiting lists of couples wanting to adopt children, you don't need the state to take care of them, society already have individuals and civil associations willing to do so voluntarily.

@LolRheno @dantolius1 @MePeterNicholls @adhee1673 Most of those are enabled by the government itself via intelectual property laws and other regulations that make competition harder to come up or sometimes impossible. And investment groups like BS are big but far from monopolies, the don't own a major portion of any market.
