I just open-sourced something I wish I had years ago. code_sunset → a Rails gem that tells you what code you can safely delete. Not guesses. Real production data. when a feature was last used how often it’s hit how many users/orgs still rely on it whether paying customers are involved It even generates an AI-ready removal prompt with evidence. This started as a hack in a messy monolith ~5 years ago. Rebuilt with AI → now it’s a full Rails engine + dashboard. If you’ve ever said “let’s not touch that code…” this is for you. I got tired of paying $12/month for voice typing… so I built my own. KachaKache (කච-කචේ) v0.1.0 is now live. I’ve been using tools like Wispr Flow for quick voice-to-text. But two things kept bothering me: • It’s cloud-based • It’s a monthly subscription So I thought… we already have solid open-source voice models — why not just run it locally? That idea turned into a small weekend project. What KachaKache does: • 🎙️ Voice → Text (fully local) • 🔒 Privacy-first (no data leaves your machine) • ⚡ No account, no login • 🧠 Supports 4 voice models (base en works great for me) • 🧹 Built-in lightweight rule engine for cleanup I’ve also shared a quick video showing how it works. Since this is an unsigned macOS app, you’ll need to run this once before opening: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/KachaKache.app If that feels sketchy (fair enough 😄), you can always clone the repo and build it locally. This is still v0.1.0 — very early. There will be rough edges. But if you’re someone who wants: → local-first tools → privacy over convenience → no subscriptions for basic workflows …this might be useful. If you try it out, let me know what you think. Ideas, improvements, weird bugs — all welcome. PRs are open too GitHub + download link in replies 👇 #buildinpublic #opensource #privacy #macos #indiehackers #srilanka #ai #developers

@aselawaid Most owners who sold aren’t even in LK now. This has become a too much of a mess to deal with and I think some might’ve already used their old QR to refuel as well making the matter worse.

New vehicle owners, please make sure you have your Chassis Number or Engine Number ready when completing new registrations. You will need one of these details during the registration process. #FuelApp

Less human interactions: Delifrance allow you to order online by scanning a qr, no need to speak to anyone, just sit, scan order, it comes to your table. Easy to customize my sandwich, don't have to repeat myself - and yes they allow you to remove tomatoes! 🍅

@sdglhm It’s not about allowing Lahiru. Basically almost all IPGs and any machine that has LankaQR enabled can accept UPI. It’s awareness

Sri Lanka has UPI fully operational. Indian travelers can technically pay the same way they do at home. Seamless. Instant. No forex hassle. And yet. Walk into most hotels no UPI. Restaurants cash or card only. We have 500,000+ Indian visitors a year. Our biggest source market by far. And we're making them fumble with currency exchange and card fees when the solution is already here. India didn't build UPI for fun. It's how 300 million+ people pay for everything. You want Indian tourists to spend more? Remove the friction. A QR code at the counter costs nothing. The upside is enormous. This isn't a tech problem. The infrastructure exists. The issue is awareness, and some thinking! Sri Lanka rolled out the red carpet for Indian travelers then forgot to let them pay.

I feel the racism towards locals is spreading to restaurants in Colombo as well. Went to one for lunch today, and you could almost see the “disappointment” on the face of the servers. They then rushed us, and we felt like they just wanted us to vacate the table ASAP.

@cinemazonic @mplsolx @VerdeSelvans Yeah, even OSM works. (Albeit not good) while apple cannot do simple navigation. Both Google and in turn Waze is miles if not light years ahead of Apple Maps.

@sorenblank Oh yeah, in this context, I think this solution is the best. Doesn't break visual hierarchy and reduces friction until they need to do an action.
