#OTD in 1918, the Proclamation of Independence of Latvia was signed. On behalf of the @CanadianArmy, I wish the Latvian people a joyous day and thank them for being our partners in defence of democracy.

The Octavius was an 18th-century ghost ship discovered off the coast of Greenland in 1775. Initially assumed to be empty upon being sighted, when boarded, a spine-shivering sight awaited. Below the deck, they came across the entire crew, completely frozen. The captain sat rooted, almost stoically, at the table in front of him with a pen still in hand and his log laid out before him. Written there was the log’s last entry, dated November 11, 1762, and its last recorded position marked their location about 250 miles north of Alaska’s arctic coast. The ghost ship had been adrift for thirteen years before its discovery, meandering aimlessly for hundreds of miles. And the complete picture is even more chilling.

We should all be excited about leading the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia. It will be a balancing act between training, people, and kit, but I know our #OneArmy team is up to the challenge.

@WandererDerek It was the week prior to the first meeting of the supporters group that I sat down to look for a historic name for a potential Hfx team and found the Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club. Though this org was likely males only at the time the name now brings all Haligonians together.

Appreciate the support on this & always up for a healthy discussion (if that’s still possible) so curious why some don’t feel a women’s team deserves their own team name? It is going to look very similar (colours, crest, tone) but is “Wanderers Women” really the best we can do?

UPDATE: The Canada Day fireworks scheduled for this evening have been postponed due to poor weather conditions. The fireworks have been rescheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, July 2. Further updates will be shared via the municipality’s social media accounts.
