Competition is a good thing in both football and elections. Vote YES on H! top two open primaries for South Dakota.

Independent voters in South Dakota should switch their registrations to Republican if they want a voice in electing our next Governor. The Republican primary is usually the only election that matters.

A recent poll suggests an interesting 2026 governor's contest between Marty Jackley, Dusty Johnson and Larry Rhoden. Sadly, only those who vote in the June Republican primary will get to decide who our next governor will be. Historically, that's a small % of registered voters.

South Dakota is a one-party state. Only 9 of 105 SD legislators are non-Republicans. The Democrat party is irrelevant in the state. #southdakota

Tuesday was tough. But the number of independents continues to soar. Neither party has the vision or the trust of the American people to remake our democracy.

We regret that voters chose to not address some fundamental problems in South Dakota’s government. Open primaries would have improved low voter turnout in the primary elections, empowered 155,000 independent South Dakota voters to fully participate in the primaries, brought competition to our elections and motivated politicians to address the concerns of all voters, not just their party bosses.

@BREN_thirty30 @brittab84 Each voter still gets only one vote so it serves them to cast it for their best candidate in the primary so they make it to the general. And, it's not as your example - any elected official is meant to represent all their constituents who would still all be South Dakotans

@brittab84 @sdopenprimaries I don't have a problem with that. If one party doesn't have a candidate, then have two from the other party in the general. I still disagree with open primaries, however. Allowing Dems & Ind to vote in GOP primaries is akin to allowing Nebraskans to vote for SD's governor.

Each voter gets one vote for each office. Top two vote getters advance to the general. As far as saying you're an 'R' when you're really a 'D' or ´L' ... the parties and community would call these candidates out before the primary

If Joe Biden decided to change his registration to Republican he identifies on ballot as an R even if he is antithetical to everything the R platform stands for. Same for any party’s candidates.

@brittab84 @BREN_thirty30 Correct. The Dem primary is open to Independents but the Rep chose not to open theirs.

@BREN_thirty30 @sdopenprimaries Also, the democrat party has in the past allowed non-democrats to vote in their primaries. South Dakota law allows the parties to decide to allow it or not.

R’s should have no say in who runs as a D, Green, libertarian etc & vis Versa. Otherwise freedom of association is gone & risks of a 1 party system rise
