Just finished Walter Isaacson’s excellent biography of Benjamin Franklin, who really helped shape our common American identity and our values of hard work, thrift, and meritocracy. One small point that jumped out at me was how many letters (often intemperate) Franklin wrote but never sent. The unsent letter was a valuable tool for venting frustration without incurring the consequences. In our era of instant communication by email and text, I fear there are fewer unsent communications, which is not a good thing.

I once got an H-1B approved for a person who was a professional table setter. It was for high end catering company client. Except in very rare circumstances, H-1Bs are not about finding diamond in rough type talent. It's about patronage, cost savings, and securing workers who are more dependent on the employer.

The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?).
This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.

In a new interview with ELLE magazine, she described the project as a mythological story and expressed full support for the director’s vision.

A new lawsuit says Disney scans 75,000 faces a day at Disneyland without meaningful consent. The opt-out is a small icon at select gates, no verbal notice, no app alert. The suit argues guests should have to opt in, not find their way out of a biometric dragnet.
