Today we are launching jobloss.ai. A real-time tracker of AI-driven layoffs across the U.S. These jobs are disappearing. The numbers are growing. And we're counting every single one.

New: The AI exec. order was postponed because David Sacks called Trump this morning and argued that having the federal government review models before their public release would slow down innovation and harm the U.S. in its AI race with China. David Sacks was read in on the EO this week and senior White House officials believed he was good with it. “Then, he called POTUS this morning unbeknownst to anybody, his own staff included, and derailed it,” a senior White House official told me. w/ @cheyennehaslett @jacob_wendler politico.com/news/2026/05/2…

Sen. @HawleyMO on AI: “We want to see new technology create jobs, not destroy jobs. This is why we ought to pass legislation right now that would require these tech companies to turn over data on how many jobs they're creating OR how many jobs they're destroying.”

82% of Americans support giving the government access to AI models before release. President Trump is set to sign an EO to put this into practice — directing AI labs to voluntarily allow the government to review advanced AI systems. dailysignal.com/2026/05/20/tru…

The California Senate has passed the ‘No Robo Bosses Act’ (SB 947), landmark legislation targeting AI use in the workplace: • Bars employers from relying solely on AI to fire or discipline workers, requiring human oversight • Bans AI systems from building predictive profiles of employees using personal data

Reporter: What's your message to American families who are scared by the rise of AI? They're worried that their kids are not going to be able to have jobs someday? Trump: AI is amazing. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

NEW: Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) on college graduates booing mentions of artificial intelligence at commencement ceremonies this week. “They can’t find jobs. 30-40% of them are unemployed, and they blame AI for this, and you know, they may well be right,” @HawleyMO told me. “We want to see new technology create jobs, not destroy jobs,” he added.

This is an important report, and an important pilot for how model evaluations should work. METR got access to the most capable internal models and conducted what may be the first independent assessment of misalignment risks inside frontier AI companies. The findings deserve serious attention from policymakers, and the process deserves to be replicated and eventually required.
METR@METR_Evals

Could an AI company lose control of its own agents? To find out, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and OpenAI let us (1) test their best internal models with CoT access, (2) review non-public info about capabilities, alignment, and control. The result: our first Frontier Risk Report.

Today, Meta is firing thousands of workers to replace them with AI. If Mark Zuckerberg is willing to lay off 10% of his own employees, what do you think his AI will do to the average American worker?

The current legislative focus — and potential new executive order from the White House — on pre-deployment testing of public-facing AI products misses where the most significant risks are emerging right now. Yet no federal framework addresses what is happening inside the labs. secureainow.substack.com/p/frontier-ai-…

A new Trump executive order would reshape how the U.S. government oversees powerful AI models, and it has two major components: 1.) The current draft calls for AI labs to share frontier models with the government at least 90 days before public release under a voluntary framework. 2.) It also targets cybersecurity across national security agencies, hospitals, and banks. It would boost cyber hiring and threat-sharing between industry and government. (Per @axios)
