It’s a compelling visual. I understand the appeal. But a lot of what’s shown here doesn’t hold up under real-world conditions. Anyone who has operated in austere or combat environments will recognize some immediate gaps. A few commenters are catching pieces of it. The issues aren’t just tactical, they’re fundamental: • Thermal failure — shipping containers, as shown, have effectively zero insulation value. In a place like Alaska, that’s not uncomfortable, it’s unlivable without major modification. • Energy reality — “off-grid” in that climate requires serious modeling. Winter solar production, storage, and heating loads are being ignored. • System fragility — water, waste, fuel, and maintenance chains are not addressed. Those are what actually break first. • Security theater vs. security — perimeter walls and towers look convincing, but real security is layered, redundant, and operational—not just visual. The idea—independence, resilience, self-reliance—is absolutely valid. But execution is everything. This can be done. Just not like this. If someone is serious about it: engage experienced designers, model the energy systems properly, and pressure-test the plan with people who’ve actually lived and operated in harsh, remote conditions. That’s how you get something that works.

"A CITIZEN'S RIGHTEOUS TESTIMONY 🔥” I'm being taxed on money I never made. Let that sink in. I bought my property outright for $60,000 in 2015. Now the county says it's worth $246,000. Did I sell it? No. Did I make a profit? No. Did I get a check for $246,000? No. But my taxes jumped like I did. That's the problem. This isn't income. This isn't cash. This is a number someone decided on paper - and now I'm being billed for it. If my stock portfolio doubles, I don't pay taxes until I sell. If my income doesn't increase, I don't magically owe more income tax. So why does owning a home work differently? Why am I being taxed on unrealized gains? A house isn't just an investment - it's where people live. And this system means you can do everything right, pay off your home, and still get squeezed harder every year because of a number you never turned into money. You don't truly own something if you can be taxed out of it. This isn't about "services" or "inflation." It's about being charged for value you never received And people are starting to notice." …this needs to be on everyone's mind... 🎩 Property taxes: I did not write this, but it was posted locally. Tennesseans are being taxed out of their homes. #Truth

Only if you have free energy. Free gasoline for the car and whatever you like for the home power. Real Example: early 2000s we did 25-30 Chicago area clients home remodel and addition projects every year, second stories etc. Simply replacing the circa 1970s natural gas or oil furnace at 70% efficiency with new 90-95% efficiency gas furnaces cost about $2k , BUT the energy savings ROI or payback for that new furnace in Chicago's winter climate was less than one year 100% of the time. As in, in just 6 months of ONE Chicago winter the clients saved $2k in winter heating bills. Every single time. Similar for the heat pump air conditioning. SEER is the energy efficiency rating for those. And 2006 Chicago mandated SEER 12. My own was SEER 11, many clients worse. Today SEER 19 typical and 29 is off the shelf mistubishi high performance units Ditto for walis and window thermal performance. circa 1976 you would have likely single pane glass zero insulation value. And maybe no insulation or just R8 in the walls Today you can get windows which are U 0.1 or less= R10 and walls in most of the winter climate USA the code minimum us R21, but R30 is easy to achieve w 2x6 plus outer layer insul board which has become standard instead of 2x4, and not only that but 2x6 is much stronger in every way than 2x4. So yea. I'll amend it,only if you don't know the technical performance differences, and you get ALL your energy for free. Vehicle exampme: 2018 I traded a 30mpg Ram eco diesel crew cab 4x4 for a gas HEMI crew cab 4x4 my fuel economy dropped to 10 mpg real world. We lived 20 miles out of town. Bad mistake, reminded me of the 1972 mercury with a 460 v8 I bought when just 22 from a neighbor. 4mpg. really. It will eat low to moderate income folks budgets to death. SAME is true for the 1976 specification house but trying to live with 2026 energy costs.

The 1993 Waco siege stands as a stark reminder of what happens when the federal government abandons restraint and tramples the rights it is supposed to protect. The ATF’s raid and the actions that followed were not just tragic mistakes, they were the predictable result of unchecked power, disregard for due process, and a willingness to use overwhelming force against civilians. What happened at Waco should never be forgotten, because it exposes how easily constitutional protections can be cast aside. If we fail to confront that reality, we invite it to happen again.

This is exactly how Japan school kids are. And its glorious.
marqix ☆@fwmarqix

I lived in Japan for a year. Most of my experiences were exhausting in ways I’d rather not get into, but this one still makes me laugh. I was on the train in Osaka, minding my own business, when I noticed a group of school kids a few seats down. They were whispering, glancing at me, then whispering again. They kept passing a folded piece of paper between them as if they were planning something top secret. I watched this go on for two stops. Finally, one of the kids was pushed forward by the others. He walked over to me slowly, like he was approaching a wild animal that might bite. He stopped right in front of me, bowed politely, and held out the folded paper with both hands. I opened it. Inside was a handwritten note in careful English: “Hello. We think you are a very cool person. We are practicing our English. We hope this note is correct. Please give us a score.” At the bottom, they had drawn a literal grading box, out of ten. I looked up. Seven pairs of eyes were staring at me as if their entire semester depended on my response. I pulled out a pen, wrote “10/10” in the box, and added a note: “Perfect English. Well done.” The boy carried it back to the group. They read it together… and absolutely lost their minds. High-fives, jumping, and one kid even pumped his fist in the air. Their teacher, who had been pretending not to watch from the end of the car, was biting her lip, trying hard not to smile. I rode the rest of the journey grinning to myself. That’s the Japan I always remember.

OTD,1775. Samuel Whittemore, aged 80 becomes a legend. Whittemore working in his fields spotted an approaching British relief brigade, sent to assist the retreat from Concord. Whittemore loaded his musket and ambushed the British grenadiers of the 47th Regiment of Foot from behind a nearby stone wall, killing one soldier. He then drew his dueling pistols, killed a second grenadier and mortally wounded a third. By the time Whittemore had fired his third shot, a British detachment had reached his position; Whittemore drew his sword and attacked. He was subsequently shot in the face, bayoneted numerous times, and left for dead in a pool of blood. He was found by colonial forces, trying to load his musket to resume the fight. He was taken to Dr. Cotton Tufts of Medford, who perceived no hope for his survival. However, Whittemore recovered and lived another 18 years until dying of natural causes at the age of 98. -wiki.

BREAKING NEWS: Seventy-Two Killed Resisting Gun Confiscation In Massachusetts. A National Guard task-force detailed to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault-style weapons, was ambushed by elements of an anti-Government, para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw. Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group’s organizers as “treasonous criminals,” issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government’s efforts to secure law and order. The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault-style weapons. Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms. One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that “none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily.” Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government’s plans. During a tense standoff in the Lexington town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists. Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed the government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the National Guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces over matched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat. Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as “ringleaders” of the extremist faction, remain at large. And this fellow Americans, is exactly how the American Revolution began, April 19, 1775. History. Learn it, or repeat it.

To the best of my "been there done that" understanding, In Japan Match locks are considered of historical and cultural value and are registered with the library system; the same as antique swords. Legal to own, without the tiered training and testing steps to get a modern type cartridge firearm for hunting. But after 7 years we can affirm you don't need a firearm for self defense 99.9% of the time. Want one? Oh yes of course! But need? Have to admit negative. As long as you stay among the actual Japanese at least. We all know the alternative, YMMV.
