@MadelnCanada Tipping is generally calculated on the total bill not the pre-tax bill so you can be paying a tip on the tax. That’s why I always calculate a manual tip. Also, isn’t 15% (3x GST) enough?

When we dump nuance in a search for purity and simplicity, we build ourselves prisons of language. And we can’t escape as a society. Families fall apart. Our rivals gain ground. And we waste our lives arguing.
A srmple example.
“Cancellation” is *not* “Shunning”
“Cancellation” is “FRIVOLOUS Shunning”
Shunning is essential to a decent society. I’m not sure how you have a good world without it.
But “Cancelation” was imposing a felony social cost for a minor or even imagined infraction.
So now we are having traumatized conversations about how bad any shunning is whatsoever, all because we now mistakenly call all shunning “Cancellation”. All because we lost nuance. And thus the ability to think.
Similar losses of nuance for:
“Experts”
“Gatekeeping”
“Science”
“Platforming”
“Shitposting”
“Mockery”
“Refugees”
“Muslims”
“Immigration”
“Liberal”
“Fascism”
“Ethnic Cleansing”
“Free Speech”
“Capitalism”
We are now mostly just barking at each other. Look at any cancellation argument through the above lens. You’ll see it immediately, at least if you are open to it.
At some point we have to realize that without nuance, our daily idiocy will go on ad infinitum. There will be no resolution of anything. Ever.
It’s a prison of language problem. And i’m up for a jailbreak.
This daily repetition is just too stupid a use for our marvelous one chance at a life.

This is going to hurt and offend, so trigger warning: Most women including those who are accomplished professionals are much more likely to be triggered by bouts of orgiastic jealousy if @sydney_sweeney were to walk into a room than they would be if say another woman with superior status or career walked in. There is this little thing called biology that has shaped our emotional systems including that which shapes our intra-sexual competition. Back in 2005, I had worked on a project with one of my former doctoral students wherein we explored the sex-specific triggers of envy. The results are clear. Hopefully, I'll get around to publishing the findings one day. Sweeney is hated because she is a nightmare to other women.
