What? Panels of faux fur is what you'd expect have out on your washing line, right? I accidentally got some washable marker on the fur pile during patterning. Easy fix, just warm water spritz, brush and dry, and you wouldn't even know!

It just arrived and it’s actually pretty good!! Nice pile length, not super dense but it does shave fairly well! Also super colour accurate to the listing picture which is helpful, I would be happy to use this for a suit!

Have any fursuit makers ordered from this supplier on aliexpress before? They have the perfect colour I’m trying to find but not sure if they are good quality or not!

@PinkyMalice Haha I just remember being sick of constantly brushing out seams and accidentally catching stitching I thought, there must be a better way!

SHAVE YOUR SEAMS!? I do this to greatly reduce the bulk of fur in my seams, which means it takes half the time to comb out the fur from inside the seam and on the outside of the fur. Totally optional, it still takes time but so does all that brushing am I right?

@jaywithtwopaws Ngl it can happen especially if you're not used to it but once you get it down you won't look back!

@selkiesuits Always afraid of this method because I’m terrified of accidentally sewing into my seam allowance and leaving a bald patch at the seam, but perhaps I’ll give it a go! May I ask how much seam allowance you used here?

You know that moment when you're in the middle of glueing a fursuit face on and you're like "ohhh this is actually going to look so fucking good" Once everything is fully glued down and all the markings and edges are trimmed, this is gonna be exactly what I wanted it to be 😍

@DaishiHeavyInd Almost, I don't cut out a square, instead I cut out the shape as I want then pin from the back and front for placement then zigzag around the edge. No trimming required afterwards and comes out clean instagram.com/reel/DVjkXFtjO…

@selkiesuits So you just, like, place a square on the fur and sew directly through the front??

I AM SO PLEASED! The front stitch appliqué method has been such a success & I'm thrilled with the results. Only 20 or so spots to go, I managed to sew about 185 in 5-6 working days! (reminder that I only work part time because I'm full-time Mum!)

Gotta love a clean claw base! One of my favourite things to do is detailing fursuits. Trimming markings, adding clean bias finishing and ladder stitching on claws for that nice round base with claws that don't move.

And for people to have basically told me it’s not a real job? Haha, you are an independent contractor that makes custom costumes. There’s all the financial aspects too as well as the intricacies of design and sewing, and a good amount of problem solving. This is a skilled job!
Selkie Suits@selkiesuits

I think people see fursuits & really don't get how much hard work & variety of skills goes into making them. Patterning for example. Have to make sure direction is right, seam allowance, notching for alignment later, labelling...all before even cutting out a single piece of fur!

@TalesTigerfox These stripes are fantastic! Exactly true as well, totally different skillsets are used when tailoring! Fursuit makers is truly accurate to the term 'jack of all trades'

100%. Especially fursuit makers making ENTIRE suits?! like making a fursuit head is a bit of a different skillset from making and tailoring a body, and most fursuit makers do BOTH AND MORE?! Fur length/styling/choice for things like manes/fluff, stitching, shaping, digi etc etc

@ulfgardleo No problem! I use crayola superwashable markers with the thin tips! Basically any pen that says washable is all good. You can also use any water erasable pens :)
