We’ve been working on an interview mini unit, to help in supporting our classroom community through creating connections. Today I asked students why they thought I had them do this assignment. Here’s their thoughts. Look like they got it! @silwrdsb
Our paragraphs are finally done! Ss provided a title for one of our ten @unlearn_com posters, and then wrote their reasons why they chose their title and poster they picked. I love some of the awesome thought provoking messages and deep thinking skills. Well done, Rm 12!
Grade 5/6 poets are exploring how we can use sensory details related to colour to develop an interesting and engaging poem. I’d say they understood the assignment!
Today we played “roll and round” to practice our skills rounding numbers to the nearest tenth. Using a number line, or our “trick” of underlining and circling has helped us to be successful.
Our mentor text today reminded us that good writers use tools to improve their word choice. Students then used an online thesaurus to find synonyms for boring words, like ‘big’ or ‘cute’. @mckwrdsb
Detail, through the use of adjectives, helped students to develop a clearer visual and increased interest as they read about a pirate. They will apply this understanding to their writing tomorrow. Here are some of our before and after pictures of our visualizations.
Before we can dig into descriptive writing/poetry, we must learn about the parts of speech. These mentor texts and the use of mad libs helped us as a starting point. Ask your child about it.
On Thursday, we played “End of the Rope,” a game all about strategy! Students enjoyed challenging their families at our open house. Students loves being the victors 😂 #p8problemsolvers#youbelongatlkw@lkwwrdsb
Today we played Kahoot to test our knowledge of how well we’ve gotten to know our classmates. It’s safe to say, I have 25 incredible students in my classroom! Bring on week 3!!
Today’s gym class forced us to not only work our bodies, but to also work our brains and communication. Teams had to work together to describe and build Lego towers (but only 2 out of 4 students knew what it looked like). Ask your child about this fun yet challenging activity
Today our read aloud, Up The Creek, allowed us to begin thinking about our classroom agreement and what we will need to be successful. Ask your child about it tonight.
