🇮🇷🇶🇦 Qatar's Interior Ministry has confirmed fires at the Ras Laffan industrial complex following alleged Iranian missile strikes. Ras Laffan is one of the largest liquefied natural gas export facilities in the world. It is a critical node in global energy supply chains feeding Europe and Asia.

America has made me somewhat doubtful of these stats. Massachusetts and New England score the highest (or nearly the highest. Pedantry is not a virtue). Having been born in New England and a lot of my best friends are from there and also having lived around the country, the idea that New England has higher quality of life than the rest of the country is wrong. Especially so red states or the South where nearly every stat of quality of life is higher between house size, ability to support a family, ability to use basic government utilities like school or courts, social mobility etc… Once you factor in cost of living, rural New England is poorer than the Deep South. I’ve seen parallels for this around the world to a point where I don’t trust the stats anymore. I know Irish and Swiss youth and their futures aren’t that bright. I remember when I went to Norway and the price inflation was totally out of control. A lot of these maps are indicative of the managerial class biases. For example in a lot of Democracy indexes European countries that don’t have free speech or where the central authorities control the electoral process score much higher than America where that isn’t true. Thailand technically has an economy vastly smaller than Pennsylvania’s but having been to both Thailand is so obviously a larger economy with Bangkok having at least 10 malls that are 8 stories or practically indoor cities on top of a huge manufacturing base. By some metrics Kenya might have 6 times its stated economic size when you factor in inflation, black market activity and non financial transactions (which are normal in agrarian societies). Scandinavia performs best on every stat, which is justified in a lot of ways, but there’s the undercurrent that Scandinavia also has a stifling social conformity like Jante’s law which makes it socially taboo to admit that you’re unhappy or the group is in the wrong. That’s why you’ll meet a Nord and they’re so dour but on paper they’re “the happiest.” Not to say that these maps don’t have value but you have to see them in the same way you’d look for an animal’s trails in the forest while hunting. They are a useful heuristic but not the only one. Modernity’s obsession with statistics done in the least self aware way is an example of a really incredible new form of intellectual technology which became popularized during the Cold War which was misused by a deeply insane and immature society.

🚨BREAKING: France says it will JOIN Germany and DEFEND Greenland.

@Markus_Allard @umollerstrom @ChangFrick Markus, hur ser Örebropartiet på rysslands krig mot Ukraina? Vilken skyldighet att hjälpa Ukraina anser du att Sverige har?
