It was lovely to launch my book at the 35th Irish Conference of Historians on Friday, and be able to thank @MaynoothHist colleagues for helping to make it happen (the launch, but also the book itself!)

@phildmcentee Your dad operated on my dad many years ago and gave us more time with him than we'd otherwise have had. Happy retirement to him!

Hanging up his clogs having worked in The Mater for as long as I have been alive. I’m so proud of all he has achieved and the legacy he leaves behind. Delighted to have had the chance to see him in action and will always cherish the memories of getting to scrub in together

Irish peasants did not live outside history, immured in their own world. They talked about public affairs and made plans to change them. Each community had a favoured local for such meetings, which often ran late into the night, known as the 'ceilidh house'.

Have just received hard copies of my book from @CambridgeUP. It's about the ordinary people who funded the Irish Catholic church between the end of the Famine and independence. It takes in social, economic, religious, emotions history and much else besides...
