Silent payments are great, but they should be even more integrated with static LN invoices and even Nostr contacts. Eventually every UX pattern converges over one single sharable and reusable address for each of our (multiple) "identity interfaces", all controlled by a threshold of (multiple) personal cryptographic secrets.

🥷@craigraw just shipped Silent Payments receiving in Sparrow Wallet! One Bitcoin address. Reuse it forever. Zero privacy loss. This is one of the biggest privacy upgrades Bitcoin has had in years. Here's why it matters and what Silent Payments actually are. 🧵

As all scanning is happening locally, the public indexing server does not learn anything about your transactions. If you are keen on playing around with Silent Payments (BIP 352), this desktop wallet might be for you. I will appreciate any feedback I can get!

@CarlBMenger Yeah exactly, which is why I believe 400,000 is a bit high, should have made that clear before

Worldwide about ~400,000 individuals have more than $100k exposure to #Bitcoin. That’s like finding WiFi in 1995 early.

@Sina_21st @COLDCARDwallet Bitbox02 has a bitcoin-only version. IMO you should have referenced that version for this comparison to be fair. Apart from that, me and everyone I recommended it to was able to use it with ease, but user-friendliness is subjective. So won't argue on that

Bitcoin hardware wallet comparison 📚🔒 From security, privacy, UI, and cost perspectives. These wallets support miniscript, which is the technology we use in the Smart Vault. @COLDCARDwallet is at the top checking all the boxes. Other wallets work too.

Been tinkering on BlindBit the past few months. Separating scanning and spending for silent payments. Scanner is dockerized and can run on Umbrel. The scan service just tells the app it's utxos. Then spend the coins from a mobile wallet (PoC), without additional scanning/waiting.

My hope is that BlindBit Spend helps as an example for other developers to integrate Silent Payments

Ideally some existing wallets would adopt this simple process. The burden is a lot lower compared to implementing the full SP logic. One API call and private key tweaking are needed for spending. UX wise this is also a lot better, long scan times can be frustrating for users

@sethforprivacy Thanks! You could run BB oracle and scan, this should be fairly simple. There are docker images (at this moment latest dev tag is best). I've tested the app on iOS and it get's the job done, don't have an android to test. Will be adding support to blindbitd which runs on desktop

@setor_bl Uhhh this is amazing, and this approach is absolutely the future of SP sync. Is this something I can test out or learn more about somewhere?

I wrote the following text explaining how BIP352, aka Silent Payments, work. This is a proposal to enable static payment addresses, but without a notification transaction. The text go into details, but I try to summarise the process below: @ottosch/how-silent-payments-work-41bea907d6b0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@ottosch/how-s…
