Couldn't it also be the women are specifically choosing to enter those races where the elite competition isn't present? Even if the event prize is small, we are all here talking about them, articles were written about them winning it outright. This can lead to more name recognition, sponsorships, etc. Whereas the new elite talent prioritizes other events with incentives that fit thier goals.

Men are generally stronger. However, in ultra-marathons, women have sometimes won outright, beating all competitors—including men, even at the elite level. That fascinates me. -Anyone know why?
