Dune (1984) gets written off, even by Lynch, but the film’s worldbuilding is doing its own thing. Baroque sets, strange textures, and a future that feels alien in a way few sci-fi films even attempt. It’s rough, but there’s nothing else like it.

I feel like the Academy voters saw Sinners once, and were like, "Oh, it's so edgy." Sinners was amazing the first time I saw it. Then it was a masterpiece the second time I saw it. Then it was a generational work of art the third time I saw it. It keeps getting better.
