@adityaag @hkanji A small percentage of really specialised pieces, like speed optimised embedded code, will remain hand made for a while still. But it’s a different thing from those sessions of building and getting something to work pushing your sleep back, feeling 😀, the artistry and creating.

It's a weird time. I am filled with wonder and also a profound sadness. I spent a lot of time over the weekend writing code with Claude. And it was very clear that we will never ever write code by hand again. It doesn't make any sense to do so. Something I was very good at is now free and abundant. I am happy...but disoriented. At the same time, something I spent my early career building (social networks) was being created by lobster-agents. It's all a bit silly...but if you zoom out, it's kind of indistinguishable from humans on the larger internet. So both the form and function of my early career are now produced by AI. I am happy but also sad and confused. If anything, this whole period is showing me what it is like to be human again.

@docmilanfar Is there’s a forgotten computationally cheaper or cheat way to produce something close to this when dealing with video and you’re trying to model subtitle camera movement?

Here’s a 3x3 version of what this sub-pixel shifting convolution looks like. I write all this because a lot of these details are often ignored in ML frameworks. This can result in problems when training and using image-to-image deep models for imaging/low level vision tasks 4/4

How do you move an image by a tiny (sub-pixel) amount? This is an important question because things like resizing and convolution can accidentally do this. To understand this phenomenon and control it, it’s useful to know how to do it on purpose. 1/4

@mashadrokova Yeah 100%, we were really lucky in those early days with our 1st cheque VC. You’re like, why do these guys still believe in us, this isn’t working, then you later realise they never believed in what you were doing either, they just believed in you.

Two fund returners of our fund I had slow exhausting start. We need to show empathy for founders whose startups don’t take off right away as they go through year 2-3 after raising seed. Preventing their burnout can improve outcomes for tech — most winners didn’t succeed instantly

@hkanji I think investors have a less of a framework for what makes a good consumer investment, maybe since there is less of them in general, making them harder to get right.

@ankurnagpal The problem/best-thing with this is you’d could break from the S&P500’s company ratios, it’s overly weighted to the top, and do something more balanced and before you know it you’re actively managing a fund.

@ericbahn @HustleFundVC Lack of control/influence makes a lot unhappy, don’t think it’s lack of board seats tho. Most helpful micro funds to founders are there with thinking and their network, and it’s hard to believe when they nail it, it doesn’t give them major satisfaction/purpose.

Another famous maker entered the chat to clone his validated idea and outbid his users. Lets see who wins in this fight of 'authenticity' vs 'its-just-a-business' 26. @docmilanfar Really cool. Median is so much safer to use than you realise. Always wondered if you took the say the 9 median values, assuming you knew the shape of dist, if it gave any better clue to std or mean than 9 random selections.

@hanne_van_briel @ocshree I’ve tried 50mm, 30mm, it doesn’t change things much. Think it just sees the Canon 5D and that’s it. I found if you use Polaroid instead of Canon you suddenly go a lot wider, and see more of the body, but of course your image style changes then. Great post/trick Hanne. Thanks.
