@sfrostwick @luhc Way too much to cover in a tweet! Happy to have a conversation with you about it if you email me (address in profile).

Informed today that @luhc has requested that Durkan, the developer of under 11m Union Park in East Greenwich, should cover the costs of building safety remediation works.
It is essential that this request is complied with urgently and enforced by government if necessary.

@sfrostwick I guess I reject the premise that JS/TS/Web books get outdated quickly. If you’re buying books on specific frameworks then sure. But books on language fundamentals? No way.

@mattpocockuk The clue is in the name, it’s not called InterfaceScript 🫣

@TheRealNooshu Yep really looking forward to it, also I was purely focused on page load time and hadn't considered the improvement in JS execution so thanks for your original tweets about this! 🎉

@sfrostwick Oh wow! the perf difference from that should be really interesting to see then! 🤞

🧵I've read some hate online for this change, along the lines of "so what", "it's such a small gain, why bother?".
We can use Synthetic testing to shine a light of these questions, Here's the Synthetic testing results for the same UC page on a slow mobile on a 2G connection:

🧵As I mentioned last week GOV.UK removed jQuery as a dependency for all frontend apps, meaning 32 KB of minified & compressed JS was removed. So let's see what difference this has made for users by examining our RUM data. Thread will mainly focus on JS CPU time.
English

@TheRealNooshu We're completely removing it - believe it or not it's a 10 year old version and should save us around 60kB!
English

@sfrostwick Sounds exciting! Completely removing it or just looking to use select parts? Make sure you capture some "before" metrics so you can quantify the change! Hope it goes well!
English

@TheRealNooshu I am about to run a project at work to remove jQuery from one of our codebases so I can’t wait for your blog post on how you managed it 🙏

Hey, look at this diagram that explains three of the new Viewport Units — `svh`, `lvh` and `dvh`. Try them all now in Safari on iOS15.4 beta.
The @csswg hopes these will solve the frustrations that web developers have been feeling using the `vh` unit on mobile browsers.
