Per the AP, control of the PA House is too close to call. There are 11 races that have not been called. Democrats are leading in enough of those to take a one-seat majority, but that could of course change.

@IngaSaffron @DPearsonPHL That’s great! It’s not anywhere I could find on the website. If I didn’t know this and I work in this field every day, how do homeowners find out? Perhaps there is local newspaper who could look into this and help make it more known?

@sfsphilly @DPearsonPHL I’ve seen individual homeowners make requests themselves. They didn’t even present documentation of their income.

Once preservationist acknowledge some basic facts, like the reality that preservation districts make neighborhoods wealthier, whiter, and more exclusive, it is hard to have an honest debate about the concept. Sadly, they prefer to pretend otherwise.

@IngaSaffron @DPearsonPHL I’m not opposing climate friendly cultural heritage (no need to go that road, please. I’M not being a Twitter/X brat) I am truly asking - how does the waiver system work? Do you need an architect or someone to represent you? What’s the income level line?

@sfsphilly @DPearsonPHL I’ve seen them give waivers with my own eyes. All home repairs are daunting for low income folks, whether they’re in a district or not. So rather than oppose preserving climate-friendly cultural heritage, let’s talk about tapping into the city’s home repair fund for preservation.

@sfsphilly @IngaSaffron This is to me one of the absolute biggest blind spots. A quarter of households here live in poverty and many who don't are not far from it. These families simply can't afford to live in a preservation district because of the cost of repairs. This is consistently downplayed.
