BREAKING: Microsoft confirms it’ll make Windows 11 a calmer OS with fewer upsells or ads. The company also says it will raise the bar on Windows 11 quality in 2026 and focus on performance over unwanted Copilot integrations. Microsoft says it'll improve driver quality, make apps stable, improve connections with Bluetooth accessories, reduce USB-related crashes and connection loss, and enable improved printer discoverability and connections. "The work is underway," says Microsoft. "You can expect to see tangible progress that you’ll be able to feel as you preview builds from us throughout the rest of the year."

It is Microsoft reset week -- AI, Windows, and Xbox all resetting.

BREAKING: Microsoft could drop the requirement for a Microsoft account to use Windows 11. This move is being explored internally as part of the company’s efforts to win back Windows 11 users. A future Windows 11 update will also make the OOBE (out-of-box-experience) UX "quieter and more streamlined," with fewer pages and reboots, so getting started is simpler. Microsoft has committed to faster OS performance, a reduced memory footprint, a faster File Explorer, fewer web-based UI elements in the OS, and even the ability to pause updates for as long as you want. Microsoft is also scaling back Copilot in Windows 11, and it will only add AI to places and apps where it adds real value.

Why does this look like something that would be on a streaming service?

Microsoft is promising to make context menus, folder navigation, file transfers, and search, faster on Windows 11. As part of a sweeping set of improvements coming to the platform this year, Microsoft says it's working on major upgrades to File Explorer that should result in the app becoming much faster to use. Context menus will open faster, and file transfers will complete quicker. Searching for files in File Explorer will be faster too, and clicking through multiple folders shouldn't feel slow anymore. Update the Windows Feedback Hub App. It’s so slow. Then remove the Collections feature from the user’s side. The moderators/AI keeps putting Feedback with the wrong collection-making it harder to discover and upvote. Add image support in Feedback Hub if possible (for other users to see) Thanks. 🙂
