🐟 If you can think of a better fish pun, let minnow. 🐠 Today, weed-eating grass carp fish slid into our waterways as part of our continuing efforts to keep canals clear of nuisance aquatic plants. 🌱 Left unmanaged, aquatic weeds can disrupt flood protection infrastructure and have negative ecological impacts. These sterile fish are part of our comprehensive approach to improving canal operations in South Florida. 💧

👀 Hello, it’s me. You are getting a purrr-fect sighting of Florida Panthers in their natural habitat! 🐾 Did you know the Florida Panther is the official state animal of Florida? 🌿 The Florida Panther can be found throughout South Florida’s swamps, pinelands and hardwood hammocks. It is the larger of Florida’s two native cat species (panthers and bobcats). 🌳 The region provides vital habitat for these iconic Florida animals. Don't worry we'll fix the smudge on the lens for next time. 🙂

📽️“Our Everglades projects…it’s the largest environmental restoration in the history of the United States of America and it’s one of the largest in the entire world." "Not only have we done what we said we were going to do, we’ve over delivered on that and have a huge amount of momentum,” said @GovRonDeSantis during a press conference to sign legislation that will preserve Florida’s coastlines and support coastal resiliency. ✂️🏗️ Since 2019, the State of #Florida has celebrated over 80 ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings and major milestones under the leadership of Governor DeSantis - the most in state history.

👍 C-43 Reservoir in Action! 💦 As South Florida experiences rain for the first time in many months, the Caloosahatchee (C-43) Reservoir is operating and providing regional benefits to the system. 🌱 This over 10,000-acre reservoir expands Florida's water storage capacity, improves water quality and protects ecosystems. 🤝 The C-43 Reservoir is a key component of the joint state-federal Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) to restore the environment in Florida.

🌧️ Good News! It started raining again and these rain events are helping to rehydrate parts of the system after months of drought. 💧 Additional rainfall is possible over the next few days across South Florida. Water levels have already increased in some of the Water Conservation Areas and within Everglades National Park. 🏗️ Rain alone isn’t enough. Restoration projects like the EAA Reservoir will increase water storage capacity and make water available for beneficial use longer into the dry season and provide more protection from drier conditions and droughts.

🦆✨ Black-bellied whistling ducks are one of South Florida's most recognizable species. 💧 Over the past several decades, their populations have grown significantly, and they are now a common resident in wetland ecosystems and agricultural landscapes. 🌿 On Lake Okeechobee, low levels in littoral marshes create shallow foraging areas that attract large numbers of these ducks. 🎥 Thousands of these beautiful birds were recently spotted in the marshes of Lake Okeechobee near Clewiston.
