A younger friend asked about my plan for the future in MLSys space out of worry from AI-generated coding.
On one side, there's efforts to automate optimizations and kernels through compiler and AI, and on the other side, there's kernel engineers doing manual optimizations to squeeze the performance to the last drop. With inference demand for coding agents exploding and new Rubin GPU architecture coming out, there's always incentives to achieve maximum performance and I don't think the demand for strong kernel engineers will go away within next 2-3 years. But AI-generated kernels are improving quickly, and ignoring this trend would be at fault too.
My plan is to develop expertise in kernel / compiler / scheduling layer and agentic systems at the same time so I can operate in both roles. Currently, I am working on manual kernel performance and AI-generated kernels in the lab, and in the summer, I will be working on automatic inference optimization at Nvidia.
Given how quickly the field is changing, it’s better to stay flexible rather than having one fixed plan across the timeline.

One of my really goated friends @SCSatCMU is looking for an ML Research/Engineer intern for the summer rajworking.github.io.
@Dogged_Raj
His offer got rescinded due to unfortunate circumstances. Hire him!

Gemini and the Autocompletion model @cursor_ai both use some really funny data. I wish people could identify source of janky data, and there was some effort in removing that :)

My team at @Uniphore is hiring summer research interns for 2026!
If you are a highly motivated graduate student in the US, interested in working on Language Agents (tool use, agent design, agent evaluation, agent optimization, etc.) or small models (efficient training, efficient serving, data synthesis techniques, RL), you should consider us!
We are a team with collective research exprience from Stanford, Google DeepMind, AWS AI, Apple, and more. We just published 3 papers at ICLR this year, check them out:
1. WARC-Bench (GUI agents): arxiv.org/abs/2510.09872
2. PolySkill (agent skill induction): arxiv.org/abs/2510.15863
3. EvoPresent (presentation generation from academic papers): arxiv.org/pdf/2510.05571
If you are interested, please send your resume and a brief note about your research interests to peng.qi+intern2026@uniphore.com, and we will be in touch shortly!

Twitter, do your thing. My girlfriend, who is an MS robotics student @SCSatCMU, is looking for a summer internship! She is interested in working at the intersection of Robotics+ML, was an intern at @Google, and did her undergrad at @IITKanpur

We’re quietly assembling a small, elite team at @InceptLabsAI to work on long-horizon AI research that actually matters.
Roles: AI/ML researchers (strong preference for people already doing frontier-level work).
If you’ve built something real (papers, open-source, strong internal research, shipped systems), we’d love to talk.
Stealth mode • best-in-class resources • equity that reflects the risk/reward.
If this sounds like your next chapter, reach out → DMs open 🚀

My first trip to India is next month.
I'm honored to be attending the India-AI Impact Summit 2026.
Truly very meaningful given our commitment @adaptionlabs to building global technology and ensuring language coverage.

Insane that @tryramp's internal coding agent is already 30% of their merged PRs.
Give your agent the gift of a @modal sandbox today, and see how much more it can do.
Zach Bruggeman@zachbruggeman
The craft of engineering is rapidly changing. At @tryramp, we built our own background coding agent to accelerate faster. We call it Inspect. It wrote 30% of merged frontend + backend PRs in the past week. It’s powered by @opencode, @modal and @CloudflareDev. It runs fully in the cloud, and starts in seconds, letting every builder work at the speed of thought, no setup required. Today, we’re open sourcing the full blueprint so anybody can build their own Inspect. Just give our spec to your current coding agent, and let it build your new favourite.
