@JulietMosesNZ So you don't even grant Palestinians the dignity of having a day of remembrance for an event in living memory during which close to a million of them were violently forced from their homes, whole villages destroyed, thousands massacred. They just aren't people to you are they?

You can immediately tell whether someone prioritises narrative over truth by how they talk about “Nakba Day”. That’s what they’re doing if they omit to tell you it’s the day that Arab leaders rejected the UN’s two state solution that would have seen an end to the civil war between Arabs and Jews and given them each a state, by starting a war of annihilation when 5 Arab states attacked the Jewish state, and lost. The war part is like kinda material. No one would have been displaced and stateless had the Arab leaders accepted the UN’s two state solution of 1947. So “Nakba Day” is the day that commemorates the humiliating loss and consequences of a war that they started, and that some parts of the Arab world, and certainly the Palestinian leadership, still haven’t accepted they lost, and still think they’re fighting. The Palestinians aren’t unique in being displaced by war. It’s a very sad but typical consequence. It happened to tens of millions of people in the 1940s alone. What is unique is that they still - and their descendants several generations on - are considered refugees, even if they live in “Palestine”, and even if they have citizenship elsewhere, and believe they have a “right of return” that one will day be fulfilled.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed. Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us — one of home, tradition and memory over generations.

@JulietMosesNZ Hey Juliet, Israeli airstrikes killed 7 Palestinians yesterday including 3 children. They bombed a refugee camp by the way Do you think Israel will ever decide that they don't need to continuously murder kids?

I highly recommend this whole podcast about THAT NYT opinion piece. A few things among many that emerge: - it was not a good faith effort to get to the truth - the role of the highly-resourced, highly-orchestrated NGO industrial complex in feeding propaganda to credulous ideological-laundering media in a self-validating loop - this plays into the hands of not just those who want to destroy Israel but also the extremists like Ben Gvir and to the extent that there needs to be improvement and accountability in the Israeli prison system (as is surely the case and is in every prison system) it undermines efforts towards that good faith conversation (see first point)

Another point about our cultural decline. We started watching the show Widow’s Bay. It’s really good. Fantastic writing. Perfect blend of comedy and horror. Last night’s episode was legitimately one of the finest episodes of television I’ve seen in years. If this same exact show came out in 2002, we’d probably remember it as an all time classic. But in 2026 most people haven’t even heard of it. It’s a blip on the radar. Another piece of content in the endless sea. You see it, or you don’t, and then it’s forgotten. It’s not that good stuff isn’t made anymore. It’s that even when good stuff is made, we don’t have any shared experience of it. There’s plenty of good music you can find on Spotify, recent stuff, but you experience it in your little algorithmic silo. Almost nothing breaks containment to become a bonafide cultural phenomenon. That’s what made Project Hail Mary so unique. Severance maybe also achieved escape velocity. But even in those cases the escape is fleeting. For the most part we experience the culture through the narrow pathway constructed for us by the algorithm. It might intersect with other people’s pathways, but only briefly. When we feel nostalgia for the Before Times, this is why. It’s not simply that we had a “better” culture back in the 90s or whenever. It’s that we had a culture at all.

A homeless person in Auckland CBD punched my friend in the back of the head, left him unconscious, stole his watch. I would just put them all in jail. I am sick of suicidal empathy destroying our country. Assets owned by the New Zealand government (footpaths, parks etc) are not the place for people to openly do drugs, abuse the public, interrupt business and sleep. Go to a shelter or go to jail. That is how an adult runs the country. (To the lefties about to call me names, I do not care)

This “report” is clearly labelled “opinion”. It cannot be both a report and an opinion. And because it’s labelled opinion, it is important to ask why, and what editorial and investigative standards have been applied. As to which, the link below provides more information.

My thoughts exactly. I own everything I write. I have made a choice to do so and sometimes that means I have to endure weeks like this one where faceless arseholes treat me like shit. But I can hold my head high knowing I don't hide and I am confident enough in my beliefs and opinions to express them openly.

The sensible views of the NZ left activists: Ani O'Brien writing under her own name, about an incident involving two journalists is dirty politics. A former Labour staffer anonymously running an account that portrays the Prime Minister fucking a pig is absolutely fine.

@DetectiveDick4 @green_td @aniobrien How could it not have been? It was a precise, double (or triple) tap strike on a location that was widely identified (on Google Maps, for example) as a school.

@green_td @aniobrien Are you saying the bombing of the school was intentional? I.e. you’re explicitly saying the US and Israel performed a military strike with full knowledge the result would kill 165 girls? Cause that sounds a little crazy to me 🤷‍♂️
